“Real Orienteering” was how the final Colour Series event of the year was described by one competitor after a tough and slithery run through mud and over bare rock, but also through beautiful beach wood with the leaf fall making the navigations by paths rather difficult in places. There was an excellent turnout of 99 enjoying the beautiful autumnal day after a period of heavy rain. Regrettably control 152 had been stolen, which was leg 14 on Brown, 9 on Blue and 5 on Green, so the legs to and from that control have been voided and removed from the results to be published shortly. Marshals on car park duty had perhaps the worst experience at Drumkeeragh for the first Colour Series event of 2024. With driving rain sweeping across the area, conditions did become more bearable once in the forest. Especially given the harsh conditions, there was an excellent turnout of just over 100 competitors. The results are at  Results & Fixtures>Results>2024 Results including Routegadget. Do record your route. Thanks to Olivia Baxter for planning challening courses in this compace byt technical forest, controlled by Helen Baxter. Joe McClure was on top of his role as org ..read more

Double Header in the North West

Despite an atrocious weather forecast of heavy rain for Saturday 17 February, North West Orienteering Club managed to time both the 2024 NI Score Champs and the NI Night Champs in dry weather. The Score competition used the part wooded and part parkland area of St Columb’s Park as well as the adjoining contrasting urban area of Ebrington Square, giving challenging courses with the added complication of a map flip. This added to the complexity of the competition as there was a judgement to be made as to when how many controls to collect on part 1 before moving on to part 2. Thanks to ..read more
