Marshals on car park duty had perhaps the worst experience at Drumkeeragh for the first Colour Series event of 2024. With driving rain sweeping across the area, conditions did become more bearable once in the forest. Especially given the harsh conditions, there was an excellent turnout of just over 100 competitors. Entries are open for the first NI Colour Series event of the year at Drumkeeragh, Co Down on Saturday 16 March. Benefitting from a excellent map used last year for the British Middle Distance Championships, this event has a course for all levels of experience and fitness. Competitors faced challenging courses on a wintry Slieve Croob at the postponed 2023 NI Long Distance Championships on Saturday 2 March 2024. Thanks to LVO and planner Steph Pruzina, controller Greg McCann and organiser Stephen Knight for a great event. You possibly thought that you had already missed the 2023 NI Long Distance Champs? No you haven’t as it was postponed from last Autumn until Saturday 2 March to be held on Slieve Croob, Co Down. But you are likely to miss out as entries close on Sunday 25 February. All the details are on the event page on the LVO website. Do note in particular, to be competitive you must enter as your 2023 class (or “run up”). Remember you change classes on 1 January, not on your birthday. Despite an atrocious weather forecast of heavy rain for Saturday 17 February, North West Orienteering Club managed to time both the 2024 NI Score Champs and the NI Night Champs in dry weather. The Score competition used the part wooded and part parkland area of St Columb’s Park as well as the adjoining contrasting urban area of Ebrington Square, giving challenging courses with the added complication of a map flip. This added to the complexity of the competition as there was a judgement to be made as to when how many controls to collect on part 1 before moving on to part 2. Thanks to ..read more

Entries are now open for both the 2024 NI Score Championships and the 2024 NI Night Championships, hosted by North West Orienteering Club to be held on Saturday 17 November in St Columb’s Park and Ballykelly Forest, a short distance from each other.
