GLEN ELLYN • Glenbard South played host to the First DuPage Girls Championships this past weekend and, as it would conclude, their sister school, Glenbard East, would take home the team title. In a field that saw nine programs come together, each weight was drawn into round robins to guarantee maximum matches for each wrestler and, by the time each of those rounds had been concluded, Glenbard East’s seven placewinners were the largest team total. CUYAHOGA FALLS, OH • This past weekend, one day after hosting the prestigious Walsh Jesuit High School Men’s Ironman, Walsh Jesuit turned right around on Sunday and hosted what will become, no doubt, the toughest women’s tournament in the country, their first Women’s Ironman. DOWNERS GROVE • Sixteen teams wrestled it out in the Downers Grove South fieldhouse this weekend, grinding through five matches in an exciting and intimate atmosphere, and each coming away with early December successes and techniques to both celebrate and work on. CHAMPAIGN • When Illinois head wrestling coach Mike Poeta remembers moments in his youth, he cannot recall any of them without the Illinois Kids Wrestling Federation (IKWF) being present. BEDFORD PARK • Wrestling season is just about here, and Illinois MatMen is proud to lead into the 2023-2024 season with its annual Test of the Best event. This year’s competition will take place on Saturday night inside the Wintrust Sports Complex in Bedford Park at 6:30 p.m., and it will be packed with talent. ISTANBUL, TURKEY • For the past six months, Morgan Turner has been focused on winning a World championship. Along the way, she became the first girl in Illinois history to medal at the IHSA Boys’ State Championships (2A), claimed a U16 Fargo crown, and now, after a great deal of work and sacrifice, had her hand raised after a comeback victory that awarded her with a U17 World championship at 43 kg.
