Kindness Conclusions (7 of 7)
The Generous Wife

I honestly need more than a week to play with kindness. ? It’s the work of a lifetime, but taking a week to explore what kindness might look like and what I’m actually doing has been helpful. Sometimes I “think” I’m doing something, but when I make the time to consider it, I can see more clearly what I’m “actually doing.” I would very much like for my husband to feel like this on a daily basis. How about you? Did you learn something? How has this adventure into kindness affected your marriage? This post may contain affiliate links. Please read my disclosure for more info ..read more

If you want to spend more time on developing kindness in your life, one of the best resources I know of is The Kindness Challenge: 30 Days to Improve Any Relationship by Shaunti Feldhahn. It’s a book that walks you through a thirty day challenge to grow in kindness. She also has a site where you can sign up for daily emails with additional resources and helps. The 30-Day Kindness Challenge And, if you haven’t already, take a bit of time to see what the Word says about kindness. Maybe write a few scriptures out on 3×5 cards and tape them to your bathroom mirror. Or you could also set ..read more

Take some time today to review your week so far. What worked? What didn’t? What did you learn about yourself? Your spouse? With that in mind, what would you like to try today? Experiment 2.0. Is there something you did that needs a minor change? Is there something totally new you’d like to try? Do you need to have a talk with your spouse about what kindness looks like? Roadblocks to Kindness (4 of 7)

How did your kindness experiment go yesterday? What did you learn? Was there anything that made it more difficult to be kind? Early in my marriage when I started practicing generosity, I was fearful that I would do all this good stuff and wind up exhausted and empty. Turns out, generosity is a dynamic of God’s kingdom and you can’t out-generous God. ? The more I leaned into generosity, the more I experienced His goodness toward me. Well, generosity and kindness are kissin’ cousins. So the same applies. ? I just need to remind myself of that on occasion. Chronic busyness is some ..read more

Starting to get a handle on kindness? Where have you been kind to your spouse? Are you still doing that? Do you need to start again? Is there something that feels hurtful to your spouse? How can you change what you do or say to make it kinder? Is there something small you could try today that would be truly kind? Perhaps something as simple as saying “Thank you.” or giving your sweetie a hug when you pass in the hallway. Are there times when your spouse has responded particularly well to something you said or did? Is that something that could be repeated? Use today to experiment with small ac ..read more

As you consider kindness toward your spouse today, begin to look at your own words and actions over the last few days or weeks. Were you considerate of your spouse first thing in the morning? Did you said “Thank you”? Were you helpful (did you get them a cup of coffee or run an errand for them)? Did you smile at your sweetie or give them a hug? Let God speak to you about your current state of kindness. Where is it easy for you to be kind? Where do you struggle?   This post may contain affiliate links. Hi, ya’ll. I’m starting the new blog over on DoingMarriageWell.com. I’ll be posting the first week here so you can see what it’s about. I hope you enjoy the new focus and style. ? This week’s concept revolves around kindness. Love is … kind.  1 Corinthians ESV Simple enough, but do we really know what kindness is? Dictionary.com helps a bit. As does Thesaurus.com definition: of a good or benevolent nature or disposition synonyms: kindhearted, gracious, considerate, thoughtful As you consider this, try to focus on just the meaning (tomorrow we’ll begin some introspection). Soak in the word ..read more

As I was going through my hiatus break, I kept feeling that my days at The Generous Wife were over. It was startling. I’ve been writing since 2001 and I figured I’d keep writing until I woke up hugging Jesus. Well, as I kept praying, I felt a newer message push forward. I’m still all about growing your marriage, but I want the emphasis to be about integrity and doing what will build your marriage. So … I’ve set up a new blog called Doing Marriage Well. It’s a daily blog that focuses on a marriage skill for a whole week at a time. I’ll toss in a few stories, lots of questions, and a good resour ..read more

My Thoughts
The Generous Wife
by Lori - The Generous Wife

Hi, y’all. Thanks so much for your prayers. I am doing much better. :) I’d like to share a bit about some things I’ve learned during my downtime. I think the biggest lesson for me has been about telling myself the truth. As I grew up, all kinds of things were said about me and to me. Being a kid, I swallowed it whole and that became a part of my growing identity. I didn’t realize how much of what was said was still hanging around affecting my life. I spent a good amount of time talking to God about how He designed me and what that could mean in how I live my life. It’s been rather freeing to t ..read more
