Hi, I'm a new GM, and I've asked my players to think about some background story. One of them wants to be in the same family than the other person who has the same race as him. I've recently came back to playing TTRPGs (beginning of last year) after a 10 year long rage-quit and I am slowly realizing there are a million new systems and games! There are not enough weeks on the year to properly test everything that is available! One of the first games my new group tried after coming back was Fate Core. I'm wanting to write a SpongeBob RPG set in Bikini Bottom in a slice of life style where the only rules are: you don't play as an existing character, you can't be a merfolk land critter or something like a snail or worm (really a pet). You also must be in alliance with a Bikini Bottom citizen but you can be new to the area. No combat system is involved, you have free will to an extent. There's a couple of examples of this kind of fiction that come to mind for me. First is obviously Naomi Novik's Temeraire, which is napoleonic dragons. Truthfully I haven't gotten around to reading it quite yet, but it's very high on my to-read list (if I can ever find book 1 in the bookstore!).
