Trading Trouble for Pearls

Isn’t it interesting that pearls are formed by a piece of sand causing irritation over a long period of time?  As I ponder that for a while I think the hardships we face in life are like that piece of sand.  It is not comfortable. It feels raw. We lose things in those dark, desolate, desperate times. Fear, anxiety, despair, and all manner of emotional, physical and spiritual warfare take place.  Still, the sand in that clam forms something beautiful, precious and rare; a pearl many desire to have. Yet at a cost most are unwilling to pay. And so we ..read more

7 Reasons to Pursue Consistent Personal Prayer Retreats

I’ve been desperately wanting to “get away”; to “be alone”. Which line up with my word for the year, “retreat”. Psalm 42:1-2 says, “As the deer pants for streams of water, so my soul pants for You, O God. My soul thirsts for the living God. When can I go and meet with God?” (emphasis mine!) This passage speaks of a deep desire to get away with the Lord; even one that we may not be consciously aware of.  We feel a restlessness; an urge or sense that we need to be doing something or that w are “missing out”. This unexplained discontentme ..read more

As I am praying through the hundreds of prayer requests sent this past weekend, Psalm 91 keeps coming to mind. It starts out in the setting of being in the Secret Place with the Lord. “He [or she] who dwells in the secret place of the Most High, shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty.” Psalm 91:1 This “secret place” is mentioned in other Scriptures as well. Psalm 27:5 says, “For in the time of trouble He shall hide me in His pavilion; in the secret place of His tabernacle He shall hide me; He shall set me high upon a rock. Psalm 31:20 says, “You shall hide them in the sec ..read more

Jesus: Pandemic Love

Oh how easily my heart can become weary, overwhelmed and even impatient at this Covid-19 pandemic. I am astonished at how quickly fear can strike the hearts of so many, but if I’m honest I have felt fear nip at me, too. Life is short, fragile, and never promised for more than the moment we are living. The uncertainty of tomorrow is not meant to cause us fear. Instead, it should prompt us to turn our eyes upon the Lord, our provider, protector, portion and peace. Today, the Lord’s desire that we care for ourselves and those around us may mean taking widespread precautions. However, pa ..read more

A Prayer for Your Burdened Heart

This morning I was working through the Burdened Heart section of my 30 Personal Spiritual Warfare Prayers Journal again because, you know… I guess God wants me to use the materials He lays on my heart to design so He can teach me more about what I thought I knew before. Ha! God is SO good! And so very patient with me! Or maybe it’s just because His Word is living and active (Hebrews 4:12-13). It’s also God-breathed (2 Timothy 3:16). So every time we open and read the Bible, we are reading and ingesting His living breath. I kinda like that thought picture. Anyway, back to the portio ..read more
