My Teenage Daughter: Doing the Impossible

So, she’s rounded up three other people and managed to arrange a weekly (!!) D&D game. Every Friday. Firm commits. And apparently I’m running it. “We’ll need characters for three of us; E already has one.” “Um. We make characters AFTER Session Zero. We don’t even know what game we’re playing yet.” “Hmmm. I guess that’s fair.” I must question if I’m even capable of running a game for this crowd. We shall see. I shall give it the old college try. I wonder if they’d be interested in the Dungeon Fantasy RPG…   The post My Teenage Daughter: Doing the Impossible appeared first on Gaming Bal ..read more

The big Dungeon Fantasy RPG sale at the Gaming Ballistic shopify store ends TODAY. The Gaming Ballistic sale features 19 different DFRPG and fantasy-adjacent products. PDF-only products and bundles are 50% off. Those containing physical product are 25% off. The sale ends tonight at 10pm Central. For those concerned with such things, SJ wrote a Daily Illuminator noting that the material produced for the DFPRG from GB is “official” material, and both he and Kromm consider it that way. So while it’s third-party, it’s not home-brew and it does get looked at and discussed with Sean ..read more

Eleven Years Blogging
Gaming Ballistic

I started standing up my blog for real in the kitchen of my in-laws, on December 26, 2012. My first real content post was this one, two days later: https://gamingballistic.com/2012/12/28/managing-polearms/ By early 2013, I’d already basically established Thursday is GURPSDay, which caught the SJGames staff unawares, and they brought attention to it in 2016. Blogging gave way to vlogging and YouTube and TikTok over time, but in the first five or so years (and of course Peter at Dungeon Fantastic had been doing it much longer, since 2011) we did a lot of nifty, collaborative stuff. A lot of that ..read more

Merry Christmas from Gaming Ballistic!

This morning, we woke up and I made eggs, sausage, and our traditional Christmas cinnamon rolls. We did presents, the highlight of which for me was a gift card to Amazon which subsidized a benchtop mortiser, which will allow me to make my wooden practice swords much more easily (the hardest part is making the square holes for the crossguard and pommel, into which fits the weighted steel piece to turn a wooden sword into a more properly balanced trainer. But for all who celebrate: Merry Christmas! Be of good cheer … and find those detonators! The post Merry Christmas from Gaming Ballistic! appe ..read more

Final Two Days for OSE Sedra!; Stretch Goal reminder
Gaming Ballistic

We’re down to roughly the last two days (just under 60 hours) for the Sedra campaign. We’ve recently crossed over about $10K, with 163 backers tallied so far. We also got tapped as a Kickstarter Project We Love, which is a nice comment on the campaign, its content, and presentation. I’ve been working the text, and have a tentative design that combines some of the work from Best Supporting Actors with that of prior books. Some examples: Here’s something from early on in the book, though I feel I want to tweak some things about the table presentation (it’s a little tight). I also see a few ..read more

Ballistic’s Report: What’s going on with GB – Dec 8, 2023
Gaming Ballistic

Three busy weeks since my last report. All packages for Sedra have gone out. Playtest of extant Mission X rules continues. I launched an OSE conversion of the Sedra sourcebook and companion adventures yesterday. Isle of Sedra has effectively reached 100% shipment, and mostly those packages have arrived. Time to get the TFT books up on my website. That sounds like a good “today” task. Mission X. I’m starting to go back to the earlier chapters and ensure they’re consistent with the later ones. The ideas that came up for explosions and suppression fire have been working great in play. Things pau ..read more

Almost There: Isle of Sedra Campaign for OSE
Gaming Ballistic

I’ve got the Old-School Essentials campaign for the Isle of Sedra Sourcebook and two supporting adventures submitted to Kickstarter and in review. I actually pushed the button on review yesterday, but finished up all the graphics and details 10 minutes ago. With luck, it’ll launch this Thursday (!!), and run until just before Christmas. So it’s going to be a pretty fast campaign, but the post-close BackerKit phase will pick up as quickly as they’ll let me do it. I’ll promote a follow-the-campaign link as soon as I have one. Ballistic’s Report: November 17, 2023
Gaming Ballistic

It’s been two weeks since my last report. Sedra is something like 90+% fulfilled. Turkey Day is next week. Lots of writing on Mission X Combat chapter. Isle of Sedra is currently at 90–95% fulfillment, and I got the cards and mailed off just about everything. There are two surveys that I’d really like to see filled out, and of course international fulfillment for AUS- and UK-hub is really “moving them to the staging point in those countries” rather than “parcels on the way.” Even so: This is a finger’s breath from being done. And with, that, late pledges are now closed. I’ll put the PDFs ..read more

At the Table with The Last Gasp
Gaming Ballistic
by gamingballistic

I wrote The Last Gasp after musing about how tired I was after 30-60 seconds of working a large banana bag in class, as well as how quickly one can get fatigued while sparring and fighting. What if, I mused, every time you rolled the dice it used up a resource? Would that lead to more lull-and-flurry type activity in what is otherwise more or less continuous second-by-second action in GURPS combats? TLG is one of those articles folks either love or hate, which seems right to me. If you want this effect, you really want it. If you don’t care, or think combats are just fine as they are, it ..read more
