Many of you on Instagram asked great questions about my setup and Methanol in general and I promised to do an FAQ and share it with all of you in hopes that you all benefit from it. If you see any errors, please feel free to reach out so I can make corrections. 1- Could you cover your routing for a trunk setup? Type of lines and fittings used? I’ve used the Nylon tubing in the past and had success with it, so I decided to use it again. To keep things simple and protect the tubing from the elements, I ran the line through the small hood release cable hole through the firewall. I also used that ..read more

Custom Oil Cooler Kit

I think I received more questions about the oil cooler setup I have on my car than what size are my wheels, but definitely not more that “Wut lip is that?” If you have been following my Instagram for a while, you’ll get the reference. Let me start off by saying that I wouldn’t recommend an oil cooler for a daily driven car. Simply put, the more you add to your daily, the more things that could go wrong. In this case, adding the extra hoses, fittings, and plates increases the chance for oil leaks. Having a major oil leak is never fun and can damage your engine quickly. Moreover, a daily-driven ..read more

Snowpocalypse coming!!!

Some pointers for our Tri-state guys with this impending snowpacalypse this weekend. 1. All-wheel drive doesn't always mean All-wheel stopping power. There's a time and place to enjoy the benefits of an AWD, but be mindful when out on the road. Bad weather seems to bring out the worst in some drivers in these parts. Despite how advanced some new vehicles' driver assisted programs are, people are quick to forget how slippery snow can actually be on normal all season tires. If you can afford to, purchase and install a reputable brand of snow tires. 2. Be sure to clear snow from not only on top ..read more

A Forester's Journey to an STI

We here at GE3KSPD love nothing more than DIY car projects, especially the ones that transform your average cars into street savages. When we met Michael and his beautifully done Forester STI, we instantly knew we had to share it with the world. It's not a car that you see everyday, hell, it's not a car that you see almost ever in this part of the world. We asked Michael to give a brief history of his build and what prompted him to even attempt it. Enjoy! I originally bought the car back in 2009. It was my first ever Subaru, a bone stock 2001 Subaru Forester in manual transmission. I bought i ..read more

Recently, we took a road trip to Niagara Falls. Our intent wasn’t to drive straight to the falls, but to make the journey the experience. We drove our rental Buick Enclave through the most scenic route along the mountains, farmlands, and rivers of Pennsylvania. We drove through cities small and large with no set destination or time to restrict us. We drove until it was time to sleep and did it all over the next morning. Our journey took us westward towards the Delaware Water Gap and eventually into a small town called Williamsport. From there, we headed north towards Watkins Glen State Park. W ..read more

Methanol – the juice of power (and power requires octane!)

When modding a car for performance, one of the most important considerations to make is fuel quality. In order to run optimal ignition advance (aka engine timing), high-octane fuel is a must. Pump gasoline does not have the anti-knock properties needed to maximize an engine’s power potential. There are a number of means to utilize high octane fuel in a street driven car and, if you’ve been modding, you’ve likely heard of people utilizing e85 and methanol injection across platforms. My tuner and I originally discussed either mixing e85 with pump gasoline or methanol injection as the two viable ..read more

So you're finally able to buy that car you've been researching and wanting for a long time. I knew I wanted the Mazdaspeed3 since early 2010 but I wasn't able to purchase it until 2012. So now you've got that car, and the mod itch begins! Let me guess, you started with the obvious inexpensive and easy to install mods; air intake. Then you wanted your car to sing, so you went ahead and got yourself an exhaust so everyone can hear the music of your people. In the Mazdaspeed world, it's well known that you'll need an inevitable upgrade; the HPFP internals. Some noobs (myself included) argue that ..read more

The Current State of Fast - Featuring Brian Ma's 2.0L Mazda3

What comes to mind when you think of a fast car? Is it the 15th 900-horsepower Evo you saw on YouTube today? Is it the endless big turbo Supra builds you read about on the forums breaking dynos? There’s no denying that these cars are built with a great passion for wrenching, as well as cars in general, but is having stratospheric power the only way to be fast? Something draws enthusiasts on the street to this mindset though, and I felt inclined to dig a little deeper as to why loads of power, no matter the platform, has become so predominant. Most of us are just regular everyday people, hustli ..read more

Talk to any racer, any REAL racer (shameless F&F quote) and they will tell you if you want to get faster on the track, you start with tires. You can have all the performance in the world, but without good rubber, it will all go up in smoke. This was the situation I found myself in last winter when I was looking to upgrade my wheel and tire set up on my 2011 Mazdaspeed 3. I knew I wanted to hit the track in the coming months, but little did I know that the GE3KSPD himself would turn me into an obsessive tire-slayer, care of autocross. My tire choice now became much more critical than it ha ..read more

If you have been following the GE3KSPD Facebook or Instagram pages, you have probably noticed by now that I am around many, many Mazdas. However, one practical Mazda holds a very special place in my heart. The Mazda RX-7, FD. When the FD came out, it was on Car and Driver’s Ten Best list for every year the car was sold in the states. Fast forward 20 years, and the FD is still one of the most beautiful cars around. Its simple and smooth lines have aged just right, and the classic looks appeal to all of us car enthusiasts. Where do I start with Don’s sexy RX-7 FD? I think it is one of the simple ..read more
