My stainless mixing tin got stained purple for some reason. Thinking maybe sweet vermouth? Any suggestions for getting it out?

I’m at a dive bar so it’s not worth getting glass. Just trying to figure out what made it purple. submitted by /u/lightningcrane31 [visit reddit] [comments ..read more

Hey everyone! Our bar is trying to gather more data on bartending attitudes. If anyone in the industry wants to take this quick 3-5 minute survey that would be awesome! What should I expect from an open interview?

I know this is a vague question, but I’m going to an open interview for a hotel bar (not too high-end of a hotel but still nice) and I don’t know what to expect as I’ve never done open interviews before. This would be a part-time college job for me. I applied for the job online already and sent my resume and a cover letter so I’m assuming I don’t need to bring a printed resume, but otherwise I feel kind of in the dark. Any pointers? submitted by /u/Future-Ad-3678 [visit reddit] [comments ..read more

Cocktails laws/restrictions

Does anyone know where one can find laws/regulations about serving cocktails, particularly the limit of alcohol allowed in a single drink (or if such a thing exists)? I imagine it varies by state, I’m in CT and throughout my career I’ve heard people say the legal limit is 3oz of liquor per drink but haven’t found anything to back that up. I looked through a few different sources on liquor permits and sales but found nothing. submitted by /u/Ismygasoline [visit reddit] [comments ..read more

Chatting.

Today I had a final warning for chatting too much behind the bar. I recently started and I have a bromance with a coworker the only catch is in this same meeting I was told I’ve impressed them with how quickly I’ve caught on and they like my speed. But the chatting is unacceptable and looks bad. I’ve always known bars as social and found it beneficial to be mates with your coworkers. Bit of a rant but seems ridiculous to call that out when no other aspect of work is affected. The alternatives given were to “marry bottles and combine glassware” EDIT: I come from tipping culture (currently in A ..read more

Mentally unwell Boomer wishes judgement on a bar full of fine folks because he didn't remember getting 86'd

Happened last night. Still laughing internally but felt like sharing. I operate a small (500 sq ft) beer/wine bar in SF and one of our biggest nights of the night is our Tuesday trivia. Meanwhile, the Warriors had a single elimination game starting at the same time. We have TVs so it was on, of course. In the thrawl of young folks there to have a good time I see a man who I have seen once before. That time was when he was in on a dead night and after his second beer proceeded to go on a mentally unwell rant about how he actually wrote the Bible with Oprah and Bill Clinton back in 1964. Large Drink Amount Advice

Hi! A little new to reddit but looking for advice from other bartenders. I had question on how to fix watered down cocktails. I am currently a bartender for a rather large party about 150 people. I cant service all the guest myself but I would have a self service cocktail with a jug full of ice and cosmo as the cocktail of choice. My issue lies in that it would overtime result in a watered down cosmo which I am not entirely sure is good. I am only looking for advice on how to fix a watered down cosmo. There will be no self service ice machines or ice they can grab themselves just a the cockta ..read more

So, a little background. I work at a “family friendly” sports bar. We just opened up about two weeks ago. Three bartenders are scheduled every shift with a 3-5 table section. It stays busy which is great, love it. We split tips evenly unless someone gets cut early (rare). Today a bartender, “K” let’s call them, left early because they broke a glass in the ice and cut themselves. They left for 3 hours and came back. Great, came back to work even though they didn’t have to. The day before they got cut early and cried when they didn’t make the same amount of money as the rest of the bartenders ..read more
