Yet another post to the "my boyfriend is suddenly really, really religious" saga asking for advice

If anyone would like deeper context, please feel free to read my other posts here. Sorry if this double-posts, my last posts have and I don't know why. ?‍♀️ Also, as an update to those other posts, my boyfriend has not necessarily been celibate - we spoke on it and he said that he'd like to practice celibacy on a very literal level - as in, he can mess up and repent for it. I was, at first, not the most okay with this because I don't want to be seen as immoral/a source of sin in his eyes and was unsure if I'd feel the same during the act. Turns out that I can and do more or less feel the same ..read more

No matter how well things go for me, there will be 1 singular thing that screws the whole thing up

I used to be atheist but I'm now convinced that God is not only real but he is pure evil. I've gone through so many events that have seemed like divine intervention. Where everything happens at the right time, almost like you're living out a script. And right before the reward, there will be 1 thing that screws up everything. When I was in high school, I fell in love with a girl but did not have the courage to ask her out. Then I stayed over with a friend of mine during the summer and he told me to do it......told me to promise him that I would do it. So I decided to do it! (to keep up my pro ..read more

Dating Frustrations & Religion

This has happened in previous dating experiences, but the most recent one really hit me. As an atheist leaning agnostic, I am pretty tolerant of different ideologies since my whole mindset is “I have no idea what’s actually true”, so I have been able to have some interesting conversation and lear a lot of peoples different beliefs and ask a lot of genuine questions without being demeaning - so I think. The other night I was out with a girl I’ve been casually seeing, who recently found Jesus and has become very, very religious. She seems super happy and I love that for her, it’s great people c ..read more

What is the actual definition of agnosticism?

i’m heard a few different meanings, one being that it’s impossible to know if a god exists, and another which says you believe in a creator, but not any specific mono or polytheistic deity I resonate with them both, the latter more than the former, but i’m just a bit confused on which is which, or if they are both correct submitted by /u/empyreal72 [visit reddit] [comments ..read more

What Am I?

I believe in science. Science provides specific evidence/reasoning for everything. Even violent, horrible, traumatic events can be explained with a probability equation. I believe that the fact that probability is unjust, unbiased. and random, is too much for some people to handle, and they need a God to give them a false sense of protection in the world. People do so much good in the name of religion, but would they if not for the threat of heaven and hell? That's the atheist in me. Question about types of agnosticism.

Forgive me for my lack of knowledge on this, if I am not welcomed, you can let me know. I am a muslim who lurks this community from time to time because I do see some sense in not knowing for certain who God is. I am sceptic when it comes to hadiths because of the human potential to cause evil. Surely, I grew up mostly muslim agnostic but later on in life have read into a few religions core beliefs and then was pleased with Islam. I dont necessarily need to explain why I believe the Quran to be from God since thats besides the point. So my question is, are there types of agnosticism? Do agnos ..read more

Do you still attend church even if you don't believe in a god?

I consider myself an atheist, but the atheism subreddit is more along the line of anti-theist and isn't particularly welcoming to religious discussions. If this isn't the right sub either, let me know. Anyway, I don't believe in the Christian god or any god, and at this point in my life I just don't really care, religion means nothing to me. However, I have been missing the religious community. I grew up United Methodist and always participated in church activities, choir and other music, bowling leagues, whatever sounded fun. And even after I stopped believing I still continued attending chu ..read more

I carry no ethics or scruples on any religious code. I hope the afterlife brings me to my deceased family as well as the ones who pass after me but I realize that's a tall order to expect. In the meantime I try to be the most compatible human because that works in living life which is all I know. submitted by /u/Beiderbecke [visit reddit] [comments ..read more

Thoughts on babies and small children getting baptized?

From my understanding back when I was Christian, choosing to be baptized is something you have to do within yourself. You have to be called to it. I’m not a Christian anymore (thank fuck),but to me I still think infant baptism is wrong. Not only can they not consent, their little brains haven’t developed enough yet to even grasp the concept of human spirituality and religion. If I had a child I would probably wait until atleast sixteen before I talked to them about that. I wouldn’t put them through a major existential crisis before they were old enough to drive or make mature choices. What ar ..read more

Will humans ever be able to figure out who created the universe/Is there a creator(God) or not/Meaning of life ?

Will humanity ever be able to crack the meaning of our existence? Or more about other universe? Or who controls everything (God/creator/higher power) ? Or will we confirm if all this an accident and the universe always exists without a need for a creator? Personally, it'd comfort me if we figure out there is a meaning to our existence. However, it looks like we will never be able to crack any of these? What are your thoughts? Have you ever had this thought?
