“A long December, and there’s reason to believe maybe this year will be better than the last” Hey, burger! The Burlington Charcoal Pit has been a downtown institution for the past 55 years. Located right on the waterfront, the Toronto Food Blog has had many a family meal at this fine establishment over the decades....

“Every time I make a run…” OCHA’s, one of Vaughan’s best-kept secrets for top-shelf Jamaican, has opened a newish second location right in the heart of Leslieville. They’re immediately part of the conversation when comes to the best Caribbean cooking on Toronto’s lower eastside. We can’t get enough! And by the length of some of...

Spoiler Alert!!! The Toronto Food Blog loves everything about at Isaan Der. The vibe, the food, the hospitality! Chef Ko and her team make the magic happen, North-East Thai style, in their bumpin’ open kitchen while Pete and the front-of-house staff make you feel right at home (in their home). With locations in The Junction,...

Happy Canada Day, y’all! We’re celebrating with a stroll through one of our favourite ‘hoods in the city. BanglaTown is located on the eastern end of Danforth Avenue just before Vic Park. Located in the Danforth Village BIA, this strip is often overlooked when it comes to food coverage. We’re aiming to change that.
One of our spots is Red Hot (3030 Danforth Ave). This no-frills dining room has a menu of curries & kabobs that never break the bank. The staff and patrons are always intrigued when we ask questions about ‘Deshi dishes and cooking. Thei ..read more

It’s the first of June, and we’re coming to you live from our new favourite spot: Trini Bites
These guys just opened, and their cooking is about as spicy as the weather in the 6ix these days.
Trini Bites is truly a family affair. Parents Sita and Bobby work the kitchen. Experienced caterers, they’re brining their recipes from Scarborough to Scarborough. Front of house is staffed by their kids, Chris & Katrina. They had day jobs and had been creating YouTube vlog content of their parent’s culinary prowess before landing in their new Kingston Road bricks & mortar ..read more

You really can’t go wrong heading to St. Clair West on #tacotuesday. The ‘hood is renown for its taquerias. The spot we like to frequent when we’re looking for a little bit of atmosphere is Atomic 10. Tucked away just off the strip, it’s an elevated vibe (adorned in neon).
Menu wise… Tacos, tostones, platos and an extensive cocktail list tick all the boxes! This ain’t no April Fools’
We often sit at the bar (no complaints), as tables are typically packed with a combination of patrons… either lovebirds on a quiet date (trying to get to first base) or larger tables hosti ..read more

The Toronto Food Blog are creatures of habit. We’re always happy to go back to the well once we’ve uncovered the goods. To that end, Yummy House (234 Jones Ave) is a spot we’ve been frequenting on the regular lately.
This hole-in-the-wall across the street from Riverdale Collegiate services the lunch rush with daily specials and plenty of Bubble Tea for the high-school crowd. As usual, though, there’s more than meets the eye here. Mom-and-pop making the magic happen from a single wok just as soon as class is dismissed.
Jones Avenue love, baby! Say ..read more

The Toronto Food Blog loves scouring all corners of the GTA for the best restaurants, greasy spoons, watering holes, food courts, strip malls, bodegas, markets and food trucks. And to say that we like things spicy would be putting it mildly!
With this as our north star, it may come as no surprise that February’s review comes from the heart of Burlington.
D Hot Shoppe is serving up some of the best T&T food in all of the 416 & 905! What a spot!
Our mouths are still on fire from our last visit, and we’re pining to go back to try the rest of the menu.

Happy New Year! Thanks to everyone who followed, read & supported the Toronto Food Blog in 2023. We appreciate you!!!
2023 was a big year for the Toronto Food Blog as we continued our pursuit of documenting the best (and worst) restaurants, greasy spoons, watering holes, food courts, strip malls, bodegas, markets and food trucks throughout the 6ix.
We sure did visit a lot of brand-new restaurants this past year… as well as finally getting to many established places for the very first time (more on that later).
We hit the road often… frequenting all boroughs in ..read more

Leslieville Pumps General Store and Kitchen (aka The Pumps) is a place that needs little introduction. Located on Toronto’s lower eastside, the Flom brothers have been at the forefront of The 6ix’s BBQ scene for over a decade. Growing out of their humble beginnings as a gas station and evolving into a general store & smokehouse, they’ve refined and perfected the two-hander one sandwich at a time.
We have two current favourites. The Southern Beef Brisket is Texas Cut (thicc), smoked low & slow and assembled with crispy sweet onions as well as house BBQ sauce & mus ..read more
