I’ll have my license soon and desperately want to practice hair coloring. I habe someone who’s allowing me to work on them, but I want to practice first.
Do y’all have any mannequin recommendations that are okay for bleach/color?

Hello everyone. My partner is finishing up her schooling later this year and we had some questions about transferring. We’ve tried contacting both state boards but they are playing ring around the rosy with us, telling us to ask the other. Before I try I again I figured I’d ask here just in case I can get SOME info.
She’s getting her license in California (1000 hours) and we are moving to Tennessee next year sometime, which requires 1500 hours for reciprocity. Do the remaining hours HAVE to be from a school out there or does continuing education credits work? Or what is recommended? I know ex ..read more

Hey yall, I live in Texas and am debating whether or not I want to go through with cosmetology school.
I signed up for summer semester originally but had to push it off to fall because my mommas cancer came back. So come to find out I will be graduating in May vs December.
I wanted to become a cosmetologist since I was little but have flip flopped on my future since then and I wanted something that could earn me extra income as a stay at home mom in the future.
But then what really are the cons to this is, my boyfriend and I were wanting to get married in May (we are long distance and hoping ..read more

Hey, I’m just coming on here to get some advice on my current salon situation. To make a long story short, I’ve been working at this salon for a few months now and the longer I work here the more sketchy things get. I recently discovered that our business license is a YEAR expired. I’m looking for a new salon, but if I am still working here and the state comes, is there any way I could get in trouble? I would hate to lose my license. Any suggestions or advice is welcome. Update: to add some info I am in TN We have also had concerns with our water system and have been told by the state inspect ..read more

Hey everyone!
There is a salon that I am super interested in, and I noticed it carries Aveda products/is an Aveda salon.
Has anyone worked for an Aveda salon here? This would be my first salon job as an assistant, but I want to make sure this is the right decision. I’ve seen super mixed employment reviews. Some are great and some are terrible.
What are your experiences?

Back in 2017 I joined my schools vocational program for cosmetology in New Jersey. I graduated in 2019 and completed the required hours for the program, passed both written and hands on exam, and got my diploma. The only thing I didn’t do was get my license for it. A couple years later and I’m thinking about getting my license for cosmetology. But I’m not sure if I have to retake the program and the exams or if I can just mail in all of the paperwork. Please help ?

Hi everyone! I (25F) am currently working in a corporate role/office job as a recruiter. I have always had a passion for creativity and self expression and am now looking to potentially go into cosmetology.
I went to college and got my bachelors but I really feel like I am not made to work at a desk all day. I absolutely hate it and I can’t find anything I am passionate or care about. I want a job that allowed me to express myself and also help others. I contemplated going into teaching for a little but I really don’t think I can deal with kids all day. I also thought about going into nonprof ..read more

I’ve been looking into cosmetology for years now and I’m finally going to make the leap and I’m trying to keep my mind open for all the schools. Currently Avalon is at the top of my list. Has any one gone to Penrose? What was your experience like? If you didn’t what school did you go to? And how did you like it?
Thank you in advance!!

so I dye my hair a lot, but for a couple months I have had it brown with a balayage. I then had a stupid moment and put a purple color depositing mask all over my head. it looked fine until I got in a hot tub, then it looked like trash. I asked my coworker who is currently doing cosmetology what I should do, and they said clarifying shampoo and baking soda washes. now i’m here, my ends are tealish, my mids are still a little pink, and my roots brown. I would ideally just like to go back to my brown balayage, but i’m also impatient and I have family pictures soon so I can’t really sit around w ..read more
