Hawaiian Adventures Kona tour boat was on the water for about an hour before the crew made a sighting that left them excited and in disbelief. At about 9:45 a.m. on Wednesday, the crew along with 26 guests aboard a 46-foot catamaran, spotted a pod of six Risso’s dolphins about 10 miles offshore. Capt. Andrew Aggergaard and crew member Olivia Miller said this was the first time seeing these animals during their years working in Kona waters. This is the focus of a study published by a team of researchers at the University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa Hawaiʻi Institute of Marine Biology. Hilo International Airport runway work scheduled for April 22, 23

Nighttime runway work at the Hilo International Airport will soon be underway, according to the Hawai‘i Department of Transportation. The primary Hilo International Airport runway, 8/26, will be closed nightly from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m., April 22 and 23, and may finish sooner, weather permitting. During the closure, the alternate runway, 3/21, will be used for aircraft operations. The pavement repairs were originally scheduled for April 9-12, but due to heavy rain, crews could not complete the project. Phone scammers impersonating Hawaiʻi state officials are targeting licensed professionals and businesses with false threats of investigation. The Hawaiʻi Department of Commerce and Consumer Affairs reports the imposters have contacted at least two current or former licensees in the medical professionals, a physician and psychologist. The callers claimed they were with the Hawaiʻi Medical Board, stating the Regulated Industries Complaints Office had filed a complaint against the licensees.
