It's been far too long since we drooled over geeky weddings, you guys. LET'S FIX THAT. (By Cakes By Kayleigh) At first I thought this was just a Doctor Who/Star Wars mashup, but look closer: there's also a Stargate, Serenity from Firefly, the Enterprise, a pokéball, and Link's sword! (Did I miss anything?)   For the classic video game fans: (By Aux TROIS petits cochons) D'aww. Digging the arcade buttons on the cake board!   Oooh, and here's the prettiest Settlers of Catan cake I've ever seen: (By The Cake Whisperer) With little bride and groom sheep ..read more

Our Childhoods, Cake Wrecked

I'll admit it, the fastest route to my wallet is straight through Nostalgia Land. Yep, I will gleefully buy just about anything with the Stay Puft Marshmallow man on it, or Little Twin Stars, or baby Donald Duck. I'm also a sucker for Muppets and 90s cartoons. But I gotta say, bakers, if you're going to prey on our devotion to childhood characters, it helps if we can at least RECOGNIZE them. You know, like this:   Not this:   And like this:   Not this:   Something kind of like this?   ...but not at all like this:   And finally, just ..read more

And now, for a little international flair, here's a Cake Wreck all the way from Norway. We begin with a guy ordering a cake for his coworker, Arnold: (The original article is written in Norwegian, so I've put this conversation through Google Translate.) "Can I please order a marzipan cake?" "That's fine. What is the name on it?" "Yes it will be Arnold 60 years. Happy Birthday." "Arne 60..." "No. Arnold!" "Arna?" "No! Arnold like in 'Arnold Schwarzenegger.'" "Oh... huh. Arnold like in 'Arnold Schwarzenegger?'" "Yes." "Are you sure." "Yes in heaven's name. You shall write it as said!!! Yeah, pri ..read more

There's nothing more dismal than the first day back to work after a holiday. You're tired, you're possibly hung-over, you're definitely not ready to be wearing pants and/or a bra again, but here you are, expected to pick up like it's a regular ol' Tuesday. BAH. Bakers are no less susceptible to the First-Day-Back blues, but I will say theirs is SLIGHTLY more obvious. Gee, you shouldn't have.   Ready, set... BLEH.   When you can't be bothered to find the spatula: I just hope she wore gloves.   Andy's big 30th birthday bash is about. to get. EPIC. ...ally bad.   ..read more

The Winter Blues... And Reds?

I know most of you are tired of winter, bakers, but did you HAVE to decapitate poor Frosty? That's just cold. And the blood trail is a bit much.   Here, you know what you need? A warm hug. Or a terror-sparked run for your life. ...which can also warm you up.   Tell you what, let's brainstorm all the GREAT things about winter! Like, uh... huh. Let's see. Oh! Well, there's the, you know, thing there. [long pause] On second thought, let's just brainstorm all the BAD things about summer. Like crappy butterflies: Poo-tiful!   And streaking watermelons: (You're disa ..read more

Sunday Sweets For Puzzle Lovers

I used to be embarrassed by how much I like jigsaw puzzles, but now I just brew a pot of tea, throw an afghan over my lap for the cats, and embrace it. (Yep, nights are PRET-TY wild here at the Yates household.) And then I realized we'll need some cakes to go with this tea, right? (By Cakery Creation) Look at this sweetie! With the little hearts, it'd be perfect for Valentines.   Have you heard of puzzle cookies? Because this is such a cool idea: (By Sweet, inspired by Sweet Treats) Like an edible jigsaw puzzle!   I like how that one comes jumbled in a box, but there ..read more

Maps, Minecraft, & Minnie, Oh My!

Grace wanted this map cake of the U.S.:   But got something in a terrible state: I'm not sure which one, but I think we can agree all these states are terrible.   Kelly asked for this Minecraft cake for her son's fifth birthday:   It... didn't square up:   And finally, Rebecca ordered this sweet Minnie Mouse:   But instead, got a major mess: o.0 I can't stop staring at the hair-like black wires. At first I thought those were supposed to be her arms? I mean, they're not, but now you can't unsee it, either, so... you're welcome. [evil grin] &nbs ..read more

Are These Boobs? Do I Censor This? WHAT IS EVEN HAPPENING HERE
Cake Wrecks

Minions, all I know about today's cake is that it was for a shower. I'm guessing a baby shower? Though I suppose it could have been for a bridal shower. Heck, this thing's weird enough it could have been for an actual wrap-up-your-hair-and-grab-the-back-loofah shower. I have no idea, is what I'm saying. Also, can nipples be yellow? I only ask because I don't know if I should censor this thing or not. I mean, maybe those aren't nipples at all, maybe they're... [head tilt]... little sombreros. On cantaloupes. Being held in a purple neck sling thingie. Which brings me to another is ..read more

Christmas Lives On In Our Hearts & Santa's Wang Nose
Cake Wrecks

You can't hide it from me, minions; you miss Christmas. The lights, the food, the days off, maybe not so much the music, but definitely the gifts - am I right? Well never fear! Because for one day only, I'm bringing Sexy Santa back. Rudolf the Red KNOWS a nose wang, dear. (And now you can't unsee it, either.)   Kathy wanted her cake to read, "We love your face." When asked about the decorations, she replied: AND SO THEY DID.   Of course, some people celebrate a special birth on Christmas: Yes, Happy Birthday, Jissas. (I read that out loud and made mys ..read more
