Well, it's been awhile... That whole covid thing really dampened the progress we were making with the product and, frankly, just like many, I went through a few bouts of depression and lost motivation. People are still buying Head Rocks so that has helped me to snap out of it and get back in the game. Gratitude is all I have.

This article is recreated from the 1987 United States Lacrosse Coaches Association Clinic that I attended during my time at Radford University. My dad introduced me to coach Runk at a summer camp I was working. They lived in Highlandtown ("the neighborhood"), attended Patterson HS and played together for the Maryland Lacrosse Club. After meeting coach Runk, I was struck at how much of a sincerely nice person he was and relayed that to my dad. He laughed and said "well, he was a madman on the field and I was glad he was my defender". Craig Sr. was the goalie for MLC at the ti ..read more

This preseason article appeared in The Tartan February 15, 1990. We had high expectations for the 1990 season with 20 freshman competing for spots. I went all in on recruiting, sending handwritten letters to any and all prospects, including Steve Govett. Also in that class was a highly touted goalie from Herkimer CC that would compete with our sophomore stopper that came to us from Calvert Hall the year before. And let me say this - Chad Burke was one of the best face-off guys in the country, period. We were pumped for the year and our schedule started to look lik ..read more

The Head Rock was developed with the main purpose of working your non-dom shooting motion with weighted, dry-reps. After coaching for many years both my father and I recognized that the most common question we would get from players and parents was "how do you gain velocity on your shot?" I would tell the player to get a bucket of balls and shoot as hard as you can, refine your motion through dry-reps and strengthen your legs, core and wrists. I would also express my belief that a quick release, accuracy and deception are more important than pure velocity.
We anticipated that the H ..read more

The article below by Tony Cullen appeared in a 1987 Lacrosse magazine. I'm not sure which because I tore out the page and kept in in a safe place. So safe that I could not find it for many years. These offensive concepts may seem like basic fundamentals now, but back then the five "commandments" were a framework for coaches that I incorporated into my offense as a college and later as a high school coach. In 1990 I would get to face Cullen's Blue Devils as head coach of Radford University. Needless to say, they handled us well, but that is the subject of a future post.

You read that right. Radford University in Southwest Virginia had a Division 1 program back in the day. In 1986 I was named Head Coach at the age of 23, making me the youngest in D1 lacrosse history. It is still hard for me to believe. The NCAA will probably qualify some modern, young hotshot coach as the youngest in the modern era. That would not surprise me, but fact are facts.
This will be the first post in a series about my time at Radford. In no particular order, I will recreate newspaper articles and share the stories that I can remember. For this first edition I have recreated an ..read more

My dearly missed mother-in-law used to say, "the days are long but the years are short" when offering advice about the the challenges of being a good parent. While nothing can quite compare to the work, sacrifice and ultimate joy of being a father, trying to start a business on your own while keeping your day job and raising a family feels pretty close. There are certainly ups and downs but I was not prepared for the emotional toll of trying to develop the product, obtain a patent, produce the product and then market it.
Oddly, in the beginning marketing was the least of my worries. My fat ..read more
