“What a day to be celebrating the future of American infrastructure and to see it taking shape before our eyes,” remarked U.S. Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg at yesterday’s groundbreaking for Brightline West’s high-speed rail connection between Las Vegas and Southern California. A version of this article first appeared at Santa Monica Next. Over the weekend, environmental activist Carter Rubin shot a video showing the “small mighty” bike path that will provide a safe connection between the Michigan Avenue Neighborhood Greenway (MANGo) and the Expo Bike path. Watch the video on Twitter/X or below: Very exciting update on a cool gap closure project that will help reconnect two sides of Michigan Ave cut in half by the 10 Freeway in the 1960s. Small project with a big impact. Thanks @SMSpoke for leading the charge and @santamonicacity and @CaltransDist7 for making ..read more

“Hey, don’t reach for it!” LAPD Officer Jose Gomez-Magallanes shouted at 35-year-old Jose Robles as Robles buckled and convulsed his way to the ground in pain from a gunshot to his right hip. “Don’t reach for it!” The “it” he was referring to was the BB gun Gomez-Magallanes and his partner had seen Robles – who was walking away from them at the time – toss into the grass two seconds before Gomez-Magallanes fired his third bullet, striking Robles (see image at top). Robles did not reach for it. Instead, per video captured by a bystander and posted to Citizen App, for an agonizing thirteen minut ..read more

Metro bus riders will soon see faster bus speeds when Metro and L.A. City get a new bus lane enforcement program underway this year. Metro is adding on-bus cameras that will automatically issue tickets to drivers parking in bus lanes or at bus stops. In the past half-decade, Metro has worked with cities, mostly L.A. City, to install eleven new bus-only lane projects. Since 2019, Metro added about 20 new miles of bus lanes (about 30 new lane-miles). Metro (working with underlying cities and L.A. County) has additional bus lanes planned plus even more that were recently awarded federal funding ..read more
