Agnes Manners – One As Beautiful As You

Sadly I never had the pleasure of meeting Sean Kennedy; the bassist of Deez Nuts and I Killed The Prom Queen who passed away in February this year. The impact that his life had upon his friends is what reached me, leading to having a conversation about him with his good friend, songwriter Matthew Gravolin. Agnes Manners’ One As Beautiful As You two-track EP releases today, and it is directly inspired by Sean’s passing as well as being a capture of Matthew’s life and what it was like to be Sean’s friend. Befriending members of bands from playing or touring together over the years, Sean touched ..read more

Pridelands – Heavy Tongue (New Music)
Depth Magazine
by Kel Burch

Taking in Pridelands’ most recent single, “Heavy Tongue”, the metaphor of fire strikes every one of the senses. In ashen grey or smoky red visual scenes, with ferocious lyrical lines burning black into memories, it’s as though the Melbourne quintet have taken inspiration from Midnight Oil‘s “Beds Are Burning”. As well as literally tying into the lyrics, the new track shares a similar heartfelt activism but gives modern commentary and context. With an undercurrent of spiritual wisdom as we’ve consistently seen from Pridelands before, “Heavy Tongue” talks somewhat cryptically, personifying ..read more

Tapestry & Friends @ Stay Gold, Melbourne
Depth Magazine

In my head I’d dubbed it ‘The Simpsons Show’ – because of its Simpsons’ themed poster – but the return of Tapestry to Stay Gold on Friday night could easily have been called ‘The Darwin Show’. It’s important to note that as remote as it may seem to Melbourne locals, the Darwin heavy music scene is tightknit and passionately committed. These dedicated devotees are even longstanding regulars of UNIFY Gathering. Draftday Given that the show at Stay Gold was the very first for Darwin based band Draftday in Melbourne, their crew had come to support both bands and filled Stay Gold to the brim. I’d p ..read more

Polaris – Vagabond (New Video)
Depth Magazine

Long time no talk, friends. While we’ve been absent, Sydneysiders Polaris dropped a post-apocalyptic and cinematic music video for one of our top picks from their album The Death Of Me. Featuring the skills of Kez Ellis-Jones (director) and Chris Elder (producer), and conceptualised by band members Jake Steinhauser and Daniel Furnari, this video for “Vagabond” is absolutely worth talking about. Even if we’re a bit late to the party. A sideways take on the The Wizard Of Oz red shoe “there’s no place like home” mantra, “Vagabond” muses on when “nowhere feels like home”. The song doesn ..read more

It is our absolute pleasure to introduce .afterthought to you today, and their debut single, “Disconnect”.  Though this is a brand new band for 2021, there are familiar faces in the .afterthought crew, and their collective experience gives the fresh project an immediate established feel. .afterthought are led by vocalist Anthony Syle, formerly of Foxblood. Anthony shares that after leaving Foxblood, he felt “pretty out of love with music”. At the same time, he was going through personal mental and physical health issues which had him feeling burnt out and unsure of his direction – musical ..read more

Deadlights – The King Of Nowhere (New Music)
Depth Magazine

Another chapter of Deadlights‘ upcoming The Uncanny Valley album landed last night, with “The King Of Nowhere” coming hot on the tail of the previously released “Born Of A Lie”. With continuity that’d make a Netflix series envious, “The King Of Nowhere”‘s music video – courtesy of Third Eye Visuals – carries the similar orangey hue of the video before it, and sees the previous overlording robot buried under a layer of sand. The fact that wired connection and orangey-brown landscape features on the album artwork makes it even more satisfying, and I’ve not even made mention of the song ..read more

Belle Haven: ‘Nobody Likes A Hospital’ Tour @ Workers Club, Melbourne

It’s so nice to be back in the swing of live music again! Saturday night saw music lovers hightail it to the Workers Club, and it didn’t feel like we’d been without it for a year, give or take. Familiar faces, those bendy floorboards, the unisex toilets.. yep, we’re home. I arrived a little later than I should have, unfortunately, walking in to the band room to find Future Static in full swing. I couldn’t tell you when it was that I saw the band last, but they seem to have been working some magic behind the scenes since then. Completely owning the stage, with new vocalist Amariah Cook in tow ..read more

Citizen – Life In Your Glass World (Review)
Depth Magazine
by Andrew Cauchi
3y ago
Spanning across their twelve-year career, fans have come to expect one thing from Toledo, Ohio’s Citizen – and that is the unexpected. The genre-hopping, style-chopping rock band have forever been in the state of an eternal evolution, never settling in one soundscape for too long lest anybody ever attempt to put them into a box. On their fourth full-length, Life In Your Glass World, Citizen have once again delivered a body of work that is, by virtue of the band themselves, impossible to summarise simply. So how do you begin to describe something that refuses to be labelled? Well… I’ll have to ..read more

The name Heartline should be synonymous with ‘transformation’. Prior and since the release of their Essence EP (2019), Heartline have constantly evolved and grown in terms of sound and style. The upcoming presentation of this transformation is their second EP, i call for the sinking warmth, which releases next week. But today, we proudly and exclusively present its third single to you, “under the willow”. For the uninitiated, allow us to introduce Heartline: Luke Taylor (vocals), Fraser Stiles (guitar), Nevenko Sarunic (bass), and Michael Cooper (drums). Weighbridge: Coming out of the COVID hole
Depth Magazine

It’s so great to have new music from Weighbridge! The Melbourne band, featuring Sean Ross (guitar/vocals), Ethan Taylor (guitar), Josh Godwin (bass), and Jake Leahy (drums), caught our immediate attention with their Limbic Resonance EP. We weren’t alone in our ‘love at first listen’ experience, given the band appeared on stage at UNIFY Gathering 2020. That’s a mighty swift progression, but a well deserved one too, demonstrated by their jaw-dropping performance on the day. Fresh single “Hole” answers the question as to what Weighbridge have been up to since, but I took the opportunity to speak ..read more
