I’ve been hanging in there all this summer waiting for results but having just attended the local hospital (after a 4 month fight) to have my knee x-rayed for a probable hamstring tear but possible meniscus tear and crossing the car parks to enter, coughed and slipped a lumbar disc that prolapsed in July (2nd one, I had a discectomy in 2019) and had to be put in a wheel chair to be taken to x-ray! I can now safely say at 57 years old I’m literally “KFUK’d” and officially retiring from the sport! They had me lie on my right side to x-ray the inside of the knee so I had to lie on my right should ..read more

Storage Boxes

keeping our gear dry A lot of the equipment we take on the water is metal based or has metal for hinges/joints and salt water is its worst enemy. Whilst we’re unable to stop the rot we can minimise it by keeping these items as dry and clean as possible. A dry storage box kept in the tank well is perfect for this. A common and hard to find nowadays box is the ‘Vittles’ dry pet food storage box. With its air tight screw down lid it’s perfect for access and keeping the gear dry. You will struggle to get one of thesed boxes and will most likely find one in the USA but the p&p will no doubt sti ..read more

Some Information to guide you Fitting a Hummingbird fish finder/gps unit to an Ocean Kayak Ultra 4.3 back in the day. OK kayaks had a deal with Hummingbird and made their kayaks to fit the Hummingbird fish finders. The majority of people getting into kayak fishing soon see others using fish finders (often posted as ‘ff’ on the net) or are advised to get one so lets get some information out there! A fish finder in kayak fishing is a luxury item. It’s purpose is to show us the bottom of the water and any fish along the way but the vast majority of paddlers are looking for holes, wrecks and/or f ..read more

Safety (ongoing article)

Safety is THE ‘buzz’ word in the sport of kayak fishing and is where you’ll hopefully spend some time reading as it really is very important. If your looking to get into the sport you’ll have to excuse the replies in Facebook groups and forums by people jumping in to tell you all about safety and their take on it. Some might say that’s a good thing but sadly sometimes people with little or no experience try to be helpful but give out the wrong advice! A lot of kayak fishing is common sense. “if it looks dodgy then don’t go out” is an age old saying we’ve promoted over the years and its very ..read more

A fish finder in kayak fishing is a luxury item. It’s purpose is to show us the bottom of the water and any fish along the way but the vast majority of paddlers are looking for holes, wrecks and/or features that hold fish as that’s what we’re out there for. A fish finder incorporating GPS is preferred so we can set it away when launching into less favourable conditions in case ..read more
