You may or may not have seen it but a good part of the tech community, especially dealing with Oracle technology or tech generally, has moved on now. And actually I did just the same. So, The Sky is Blue from now on!

What does it mean?
I use so-called social media for two reasons mostly. At first, I would like to stay in touch with friends, colleagues and customers. And secondly, I would like to read and learn about new things. With “new things” I mean technology stuff, blog posts – or when …

I’ve had this topic on my “to write about” list for a long time. But somehow it felt through the cracks. Especially in relation to the recently announced extension of the Oracle Database 19c Premier and Extended Support periods it may be useful if you are aware of this policy since you may ask yourself: How long can I request a backport for Oracle Database RUs?

Thanks to the over 350 people who attended our Virtual Classroom Seminar #19 – Move to Oracle Database 23ai: Everything you need to know about Multitenant PART 1 on May 16, 2024. In case you couldn’t attend, or you’ve had to leave earlier, we are sharing the recording with you, and of course the slides as well.
What were the topics in VC#19?
In VC#19 we talked about the Oracle Multitenant architecture, how to design a new deployment, how the dictionary is laid out. In addition, you will …

Those of you who work with the Multitenant or CDB architecture for a longer time may find this blog post title strange. But as I learned the other week at the German Oracle User Group conference (DOAG 2024), others still have this question: Can I convert a non-CDB into a CDB?
Photo by Jeffery Ho on Unsplash
Can you convert?
Short answer: No.
End-of-blog-post.
Well, of course, not.
Let me explain this a bit more.
When you have a non-CDB database today, you can’t convert it into a CDB (Container Database). This path isn’t possible but there is another path. …

There were quite a few changes to MOS Note:742060.1 (Release Schedule of Current Database Releases) recently. And this week the new Premier Support end date for Oracle Database 23ai has been adjusted.
Photo by Huzaifa Ginwala on Unsplash
What has been announced?
When you check MOS Note:742060.1 then you’ll see three recent changes. At first, the Premier Support for Oracle Database 23ai has been extended by 2 years from end of calendar year 2029 to end of calendar year 2031. In addition, the Extended Support period for Oracle Database 23ai has been removed which doesn’t mean that there …

Our developers are amazing. And you may have felt this the past months. In September for OCW2024 we released AutoUpgrade 24.6 with the new patching ability, in October we then released 24.7 improving it significantly and fixing issues based on the first tests, and now in November 2024 AutoUpgrade 24.8 has been released adding MS Windows patching support. Of course, there’s more in AutoUpgrade.

We were promising this for a long while, and thanks to Bill’s persistence and hard work we finally can offer you something which will make your DBA life easier: The ability to Download AutoUpgrade directly from oracle.com.

You know that you can download a new version of AutoUpgrade from My Oracle Support via MOS Note:2485457.1 – Download AutoUpgrade. This was the case since day 1, and even before we released AutoUpgrade together with Oracle Database 19c about 5.5 years ago. We used the note already in the …

Over the almost past 6 years since we unleashed it, AutoUpgrade changed Oracle Database upgrades significantly. But we’ve been asked so many times about one missing feature. And now it is available. Still in V.1, not feature complete (yet). And we know that you have wishes and desires. Stay with us, it’s going to improve rapidly. So, let us kick off AutoUpgrade’s Patching: The feature you waited for.

Well, after a few wild travel days, this morning I received an email from my ex-VP in my presales days, Günther Stürner, asking whether I have a matrix for Oracle GoldenGate support time frames as we share them about the database in all our slide decks. And I confess, I had no such overview.
Later the day, Günther updated me – he found it and shared it with me, too (thank you!!).
And since the blog acts as sort of my brain dump, and since I never would have guessed that the OGG dates are kept in …
