It’s #TravelTuesday and I, Dave Williams, am writing today from the UK where I’m getting up to speed after my epic adventure in the Arctic. One of the things I’m getting ready for is the iPhone Photography Conference, and that’s the basis of todays topic.
iPhone photography is incredibly powerful. The sensor packs a punch and the algorithms that create a photo from the data given to the sensor are working at breakneck speeds to interpret our vision. The output is computational and in my opinion this means we should have no hesitation in making adjustments. After all, if our photo is already he ..read more

Heads up: This is NOT a sponsored post – I’m not using an affiliate link or any of that stuff, but I’ve gotta tell you about this little marvel I used on my trip this pas week.
I’ve been using travel plug adapters for traveling to Europe for years, and I’ve never felt any particular attachment to any of them (no pun intended). I have a handful of different ones, and none of them have been all that great (and I really didn’t pay much attention to any of them) until I found this one on Amazon by a company called TESSAN (I had never heard of them before). I just got back (last night) from a ..read more

Editor’s Note: Aundre is one of the instructors for the upcoming iPhone Photography Conference, so I wanted to share his guest post from 2019 where he shares his insights for lighting and editing photos of diverse people. In addition to this, I also wanted to highlight two films he created on the iPhone since this post to show what’s possible! Below are Flower and Float. Watch these, then make sure you check out his session during the conference!
Whenever the topic of access comes up, we as digital artists love to snipe and gripe. “Man if I shot that (event, celebrity, etc.), I would have d ..read more

It’s computational. We’ll get back to that – hi all! It’s #TravelTuesday and I, Dave Williams, am here as always, this week reporting from the UK.
This week I want to touch on a subject that has emerged recently to do with Samsung’s Galaxy phones. It turns out Samsung have been faking their moon photos. This is hardly a surprise to many of us but I guess the surprise comes more from the fact that the marketing of the Samsung Galaxy phones capable of shooting the detailed, close-up shots of the moon involves making out that it’s all 100% real. Wha’t been happening is that the camera app has bee ..read more

Editor’s Note: In honor of International Women’s Day, I wanted to share this 2014 post from Mia McCormick, who created the series, Trailblazers: Powerful Women of Photography, for KelbyOne, which she mentions being close to launching at the end of this post.
Let me start by saying, I don’t take photos professionally. But wait, don’t stop reading! Hear me out. My name is Mia McCormick and before I took a position at KelbyOne, I spent a decade telling stories and interviewing some of the most influential people in the world in the name of TV News. It’s #TravelTuesday and I, Dave Williams, am back in the UK this week after an epic 80 days in the Arctic. For those that have followed my Due North adventure, thank you. The adventure isn’t over but it will be changing course in the near future, so keep en eye on things for that.
Today I want to talk a little about selfies. I don’t mean selfies with an outstretched arm, I mean self portraits. I’ve been shooting more self portraits in the places I’ve visited and doing so has a two-fold affect. Firstly, adding a human element into a landscape adds relatability and scale, as well as a subject an ..read more

This is an easy one – low-hanging fruit, as they say. I just finished saving 14 images as JPEGs, and each time I went to save the file and name it, this dialog box appeared:
I use the same settings every single time. I haven’t changed it in years. Literally, yet, this dialog interrupts my workflow often dozens of times a day. So, dear Adobe – is there a way I can not see this again? Is there a way I can make those JPEG settings my default and just know that it will apply those settings every time without me having to stop and click “OK” – yes, that’s the settings I still want after all these ..read more
