Can you have two scratch work booklets at once during CAS exams?

This video linked on Pearson's site makes it sound like if you fill up your first booklet, you can get an additional one and also keep the first one (although it's a bit ambiguous in the phrasing). When I took MAS-I and filled up my booklet, the testing center made me give them the first booklet before giving me a second blank one. This made it more difficult to check my work at the end. Is this the usual policy, or was it something unusual at that particular testing center? It would be convenient to be able to keep all scratch work until the end of the exam. submitted by /u/CaffienatedCamel ..read more

15 Minute Break PSA

To all CAS exam takers over the next couple weeks, good luck! I sat for Exam 7 this morning and had a question about the 15 minute break that Pearson Vue was helpful in answering. Apparently, you are allowed to just sit in your chair and "brain dump" (their term) during the unscheduled 15 minute break. This means you can jot down something you want to work on in their notebook and then work on it during the 15 minute break. I didn't know if this was permitted or not, but Pearson Vue said it was and I figured someone else out there might have the same question I did. submitted by /u/ActAsU [v ..read more

Friend brought me to the casino and had a blast. Went there myself a few times and got lucky as well, which got me thinking - is it possible for someone well versed in LLN/CLT to ruin themselves in a casino? submitted by /u/DrZakura [visit reddit] [comments ..read more

Estimating Ultimates from Incurred and Paid Losses

In P&C, when estimating Ultimate Losses using the Incurred and Paid methods, how much weight do you give to each method? Are there any good papers on this subject? For example: does the split vary by line, does it vary by months of development? Typically the Paid method is more volatile, so I usually give it less weight, but it would be nice to have some analysis behind my selections. submitted by /u/BohrMollerup [visit reddit] [comments ..read more
