I new fly fisherman here. Already learned how to cast small nymphs with a pretty decent result as I would say for novice, but when I try to cast dry flies — that’s just a mess.
My tipped and part of a leader are just landing with slack and I cannot understand what to do to make it beautifully unroll like the fly line and bottom section of a leader do. Watched a couple of videos with no effect.
My setup is:
Echo carbon xl 3w 7’6 fast
Rio gold line
Rio Suppleflex Trout Leaders 7.5ft 5X
6x tippet ~3ft

Got a Redington vice outfit but want to upgrade the line. Will be using it a lot for redfish in the salt but also want it to be versatile enough where I can use it for salmon as well.
Ideally I don't want to buy two different $100 lines.
Was considering getting a WF floating 8wt line but not sure if that should change given the vice is fast action.
Any advice is appreciated!

Hey all, I'm pretty new to fly fishing, and at the moment am just just tooling around my local ponds and lakes (Front Range, CO) since running water is so high. The problem is I'm starting to run into an almost existential crisis after skunking so many times in a row. I know it's not just about the catching, but damn if I'm not starting to get discouraged from not catching a single fish.
I'm running a 9' 6wt rod at the moment.
I've done dry droppers with parachute adams/elk hairs/ants and a copper john/prince nymph depending on the hatch
I've done double nymphing indicator rigs with prince ny ..read more

Soon I'll be hiking a few miles to a hike-in river. The river is in N Georgia and it's full of wild rainbows and browns not much larger than 13 inches. There are supposedly browns larger than that, with some over 20 inches. How could I target these fish among the hordes of little ones? I'll be fine with catching small ones, but I want to try my hand at a trophy. I don't really know if it's ok to name drop this river because online it says not many people go there, but I think it's not too hard to find online. It's not a blue line or anything. I know streamers like wooly buggers work well, but ..read more

Hey guys so I use cabelas vectors/rod reels when streamer fishing for smallmouth myself and with clients. I’ve been wanting to treat myself to a new streamer rod, and have been looking at the above three rods. I was wondering if anybody had any input! Also been looking at the Ross animas 7/8 in olive to go with the rod. Let me know your thoughts!

Bought a cheap combo, watched a couple YouTube videos and decided to go try my luck at a lake I typically throw a Texas rig for bass. First hour was really tough (the videos make it look a lot easier than it is!)
Eventually got the hang of it and started pulling in the bluegill. The spinning and baitcasting set ups might be collecting some dust over the rest of the summer.

My bro has a big bday coming up and I want to get him a nice reel. Something special that he probably wouldn’t buy himself but not too insane. Maybe $500ish CAD? Any suggestions? He does mostly trout small stream Alberta.
