My Fitness Account Does Not Make Me Unprofessional

Some claim having multiple social media accounts, such as ones that separate personal and professional posts, may make it seem like a person is hiding something or has multiple personalities. That was one of the last things I wanted people to think after learning this from other communication professionals, so at the time, I decided to keep everything in one account to stay authentic and transparent. However, as the days go by and I evolve into the PR professional and woman I want to be, so do my views on the content I post. My opinions on staying authentic and transparent will always remain t ..read more

When I started Your Twenty-Something PR Girl in November 2016, I dove right in and gave myself three days to launch the site. I know that sounds crazy and impulsive, but hey, it wouldn’t be me without a little touch of crazy and impulsiveness. And as much as I love to have a plan, I did that to myself to fully commit to it; I pressured myself into a quick deadline so it would get done because my passion for this blog was burning so bright and I was tired of putting it off. Before starting my blog, I did a lot of research and thought, “Yeah, I got this,” but I didn’t for very long. I kept up wi ..read more

I’m Not Going to Apologize for my Healthy Lifestyle

I was the girl who constantly looked in the mirror and wondered why I wasn’t as slim as my friends. I would always suck in my stomach and wish for a flatter belly, bigger chest, smaller thighs. As I got older, I added toned arms to the list. In reality, I was not happy with my body, and it was a demon I constantly fought with. It can be hard growing up and feeling pressured to look a certain way. I would workout sporadically or try to eat a healthy meal, but never stuck to it. After an elbow injury (that I did not deal with well) in high school, I gained about 10lbs and kept trying to squeeze ..read more

Confession: I Failed My Way to a Successful Life

This might just be out of the fear of getting in trouble growing up, but I always hated making mistakes. It’s not even like my parents beat me or anything, so who knows where the fear even came from. I’m not even kidding – just walking by the principal’s office in school would scare me. I once had a teacher who joked about sending me to the office, and I almost cried because I thought he was serious. The most trouble I ever got in at school was skipping a study hall for free cookies. Long story short, I grew up an only child with a perfectionist mentality and was never grounded in my entire li ..read more

Burning Bridges in the Communication Field

In my twenties, I’ve come to learn that building relationships in the communication field is fundamental to being successful. As a new and young public relations professional, it is also my job to build a trusting relationship between the public and organizations. Even the definition of public relations provided by PRSA states, “Public relations is a strategic communication process that builds mutually beneficial relationships between organizations and their publics,” which proves true because we need these connections to do our jobs, involve the public, and live this kind of lifestyle. But so ..read more

How I Achieved and Maintained my Fitness Goals with a Full-time Job

Our fitness goals tend to be put on the back burner when it comes to a busy schedule. We find excuse after excuse to not fit in a workout because we think we don’t have time or are just too tired. The problem is we believe that we don’t have time when we actually do and we’re tired because we’re not working out. Just like we carve out time to do other daily activities, we have to do the same for working out. At college, I was lucky enough to be very active. I was to be able to get my workout in after my morning classes (sorry to all the professors that thought I was a bum and always wore worko ..read more

Why I Walked Out of an Interview and Will Never Regret it

After graduation, I was trying to take it easy and not jump into a full-time job, but at the same time, I was ready to start working in my field. I applied to about three jobs a week that interest me, and some called me back, and some didn’t. There was one in particular that had a great nonprofit PR description and helped the environment at the same time, which I felt I qualified perfectly for. I got a phone call from a woman, who didn’t sound too professional, but I still called her back because I didn’t want to pass up a potential job. She asked me a few questions and then told me where the ..read more
