From time to time, we receive questions from school counselors and other educational leaders about how best to navigate emerging challenges. For example, we have recently seen an increase in social media attacks directed at school counselors. On behalf of my family, I wish to thank all those in the school counseling community who sent loving cards, notes, text messages and made calls supporting us, as we assisted my father, John Meyers, during the last months of his life.
I am grateful that our entire family – my four brothers and myself – was surrounding him during his last few days. We are so fortunate that, unlike many other families, we had the opportunity to say goodbye in person. We had the privilege of supporting his care through hospice, while also supporting our mother, as she managed both his death and her own health ch ..read more

The silent video below is an example how the Multi-Tiered, Multi-Domain System of Supports (MTMDSS) works within the school setting, and the description below can be used to talk through the MTMDSS framework within a comprehensive school counseling program.
The students are getting off the school bus and coming to school, and they all receive Tier 1 instruction from the school counselor in the three ASCA domains of academic, college and career, and social-emotional. The video shows the students in green, just as in the Tier 1 MTMDSS pyramid, as they all receive school counseling core curriculu ..read more

Dear Colleagues:
Hatching Results stands in firm solidarity with those who are protesting the relentless racial injustices that have ripped at the seams and souls of the Black community in our nation for far too long. We also stand with those advocating for and working toward real systemic change in the fight for equity and justice. Silence is not an acceptable option.
Nowhere is this more urgent than within our educational system which continues to perpetuate these larger societal issues, turning a blind eye to institutional racism with a passive acceptance of the ..read more

With the onset of COVID-19, the world has never experienced a school shutdown on such a scale. Most predictions indicate we’re in it for the long haul – anywhere from the next 12-18 months – until greater testing and a vaccine are available. As a former school counselor who now provides professional learning and consultation services nationally, I understand the legitimacy and identity issues that school counselors may face, especially in the midst of this crisis, where so much focus has been on the role of teachers in a new virtual learning world. By recession-proofing school counseling progr ..read more
