Will you need ADHD meds forever?

It kinda weirds me out how different I am on the meds vs. without. I'm two different people. Without I'm okay laying in bed all day. On them I just do things. All the things I've been ignoring or putting off. It comes easy. Makes me wonder who I really am? Can anyone relate? Like how will I stay productive without the meds? I don't quite see it. But I'm still the same person so I should be able to do it? submitted by /u/NakovaNars [visit reddit] [comments ..read more

How do I make myself do something that I really want to do?

Backstory - I have a year off from a job that I dislike. I want to be an artist. Why can't I motivate myself to use this time towards honing my craft and starting my business? I'm guessing people without ADHD also procrastinate because they are scared of failure etc, but I really don't know why I am not starting. I seem to struggle more doing things I want to do than things I don't want to do? That seems really f'cked up and I can't understand it. I'm recently diagnosed as combined ADHD and not on medication yet. Any tips or explanation other than medication? Thanks submitted by /u/JaymieJ ..read more

I am terrible at texting people back nowadays. I will go days without answering groupchats specifically. My friends will make small (mostly joking) comments about it and it annoys the life out of me. I am very busy nowadays and don’t check my phone much. I truthfully just forget about it. submitted by /u/Morgans_life [visit reddit] [comments ..read more

What exactly are daydreaming and mind wandering in ADHD?

I was diagnosed with ADHD (still untreated), but I had so much trouble understanding some of my symptoms because I didn't know how thinking was supposed to be for a typical brain; I thought the way I think and what happens in my head are normal and similar to how everyone else experiences the world. After some research, I got a general idea of how it's like with ADHD and how it's supposed to be like without ADHD for most symptoms. I was able to understand the difference in thinking and experiences between ADHDers and typical people for nearly all symptoms, except daydreaming and mind wanderin ..read more

I've been diagnosed with ADHD and have noticed that I tend to get easily addicted to unhealthy habits or substances. I can't stop once I am addicted to it even knowing that it is detrimental to my well being. Is this a common experience among people with ADHD? Are we more prone to developing addictions and struggle with quitting? How did you get rid of your addiction and how hard it was? Please share your experiences, any advice would be greatly appreciated. submitted by /u/tangledmetaphor [visit reddit] [comments ..read more

How in the world do you guys study?

I can never bring myself to study. No matter what i do. I try studying and get stuck on the same page. No matter how interesting the chapter is I am unable to do it. It feels like I have a force stopping my brain whenever I try to put the simplest amount of work into thinking. I can do physical tasks all day long but when it comes to mental effort, my brain just shuts down. I feel 'tired' in my brain(if that makes any sense). If I decide to take a short break from studying, 5 hours fly by like 5 minutes. I especially cannot study in the presence of someone, as my brain just decides to stop wo ..read more

M19 here, as a child i recall beign EXTRMELY hyperactive, everyone in my family does. I found a video some months back which was 8 minutes of me running around the house humming some tune and at some point screaming the tune while my mom tried to get me to brush my teeth or something. Its nothing like that anymore, i have attention problems and may sometimes get hyperactive if im out with friends but my mom wouldnt say i was hyperactive after i turned 12 or so. Does anyone have the same experience? What may have caused it? I havent been on any medication since 2020. submitted by /u/Sad_Chemi ..read more

Not even 5% of population has adhd seems low?

I just read that in adolescence about 4,4% of the population has adhd and that just seems low to me considering how many people with adhd I know. I'm not just talking about friends but just looking at my Uni. I study automotive engineering and we started with 80 to 90 people and now are maybe 40(?) are left (6. Semester). I know quiet a few people in my course that are diagnosed with adhd and a few that I highly suspect have it (maybe too). Looking at my surroundings and not just friends I see so many that have it that 4,4% just doesn't seem enough. Am I just surrounded by an unnormal amount ..read more

I have been an academic weapon since I was a kid till 12th grade. topped my country and my state (top 10 ish in both respectively). after that during undergrad I flunked massively. can't study for shit not able to focus for long periods of time. alcohol consumption nicotine(cigarettes). don’t have the motivation to do anything in life. can't even get out of bed. I'm pretty sure I have undiagnosed ADHD but don’t have the energy to get help. spoke to a doctor about it and prescribed me Methylphenidate 10mg . took once but it helped like a charm (since I only took it once I don’t know if it was ..read more
