How are you doing? No, how are you REALLY doing? We are going a bit off here in the craft cave. When you work for years to create a place where people can come together to learn and share with each other, it's very hard to sit on your hands and NOT share and teach and learn. That's why we've decided to create a series of Craft-A-Long events on our Facebook page. These Facebook Live events will allow some of our teachers and staff to share techniques and skills while maintaining social distancing.  and help everyone pass their time with a little more fun.  All of the events will take place at t ..read more

Craft Habit Raleigh - News
by Cynthia Deis

from this week's newsletter- Did you miss your step goal for the 9th day in a row? is your dry January a little too wet? have you already snoozed your way through a few too many barre classes to ever show your face? Yeah, we get it. We've missed a goal or two ourselves. January is weighed down with so many 'fresh start' feelings, but in the end it's just a month, right? That's why we like to make -mostly-  craft-related resolutions. Yarn does not judge. Your glue gun has no calories. A beading project won't give you the side-eye if you pick it back up after a week or six months. There's even ..read more

Is A Sewing Machine Too Dangerous For My Child?
Craft Habit Raleigh - News
by Cynthia Deis

We get asked so often if a child is 'old enough' to use a sewing machine. The short answer is probably yes. Yes, we think that a 7 year old can use an electric sewing machine, sharp fabric scissors, needles and even a hot iron. Not only do we think they CAN do use things, we think they SHOULD use these things.  Sewing teaches children fine motor skills, planning, spatial relationships and even geometry. Sewing with a machine also teaches a child that you trust them to do something 'adult' and maybe a bit dangerous (hint: it's not actually dangerous!) Taking the time to sew a useful item wil ..read more

As part of the Season of Giving (we like that name!) we are running an Art Supplies Drive for the local non-profit Art Intimacy, as well as an “Undies Drive” for Note in the Pocket, another local non-profit. The Note In The Pocket organization provides clean clothing and underwear to homeless and needy school children in Wake County. They especially need adult-sized items (because teens are adult-size!) and we are happy to c ..read more
