If you've ever been to Italy, you know all good things come from Italy.  Seriously.  Good wine. Delicious food. Beautiful art. Lovely countryside. Amazing people.  Did you know that Italy is also the origin of an absolutely adorable and sweet dog breed?  A few weeks ago, I had the pleasure of photographing two wonderful little Italian Greyhounds, and their human mom and sister.  O.M.G. These dogs were SO fun and sweet. Not only do they look like little renaissance statues, they are goofy, snuggly, and playful little pups.  Even Clooney had the honor of meetin ..read more

Many moons ago, in a career far away, I learned that successful leaders understand their own limitations, and surround themselves with talented people who can fill in the gaps.   I'm constantly working on my leadership skills, especially when it comes to goal setting for three cats and a dog. Mainly, I've asked that they don't embarrass me in public in exchange for full bellies, warm beds, and on-demand attention. Being indoor only, the cats do a pretty good job holding their end of the bargain. Although, they have been known to help themselves to fresh salmon during dinner ..read more

It seems like yesterday, but it's been years since I completed a special project; earning myself a Certificate in Photography from the University of Washington.  Then life went on, Clooney and I got busy, and I never shared it publicly, beyond my graduation show.  I've been thinking about this project a lot lately, as I've had a lot of time to think (more on that later), and I've been exploring why I left my former career; walking away from a very comfortable salary and intellectually stimulating work to become a pet photographer.  OK…truth be told…I left my former job before becoming a pet ph ..read more

Every so often, an animal enters my life at just the right time. At a time when I'm most vulnerable - when I need them most. Don’t get me wrong, I’m profoundly impacted by every animal I meet.  If we open our hearts and minds, and observe acutely, there is something to learn from each and every one of these beautiful, intelligent beings. But there are others who enter my life for such obvious reasons, that a blindfold and a brick wall couldn’t prevent me from seeing why.I met Stella in the Fall after her dad booked a photoshoot as a surprise Christmas gift for his wife. How cool is that? Serio ..read more

What do you get when you mix holiday cheer and a bunch of dogs?  Holiday Hounds! Oh goodness, what another wonderful Holiday Hounds event!  I almost canceled it this year for a variety of reasons, but was peer pressured into it, and am so grateful for amazing friends who don't take "no" for an answer.  Holiday Hounds is no doubt THE BEST holiday party each year!  (-;  It's a day of happiness, treats, and dog-gone-fun! As with last year we had a great mix of experienced and new canine talent.  I LOVE them all.  As I'm sure you will too! These return hounds (and their people) were just as adorabl ..read more

I’m not good at this.  Grieving. I’m not good at all.I should be…I’ve had plenty of practice. But I’m not. No matter how many losses I’ve had or how prepared I am, losing a loved one sucks. Plain and simple – it sucks.I lost my kitty Dori today and my heart is breaking in a million pieces.  One by one.  I told my husband that from now on, I’m sticking with goldfish.  Perhaps I won’t get so attached. But I will.  I have a goldfish and I am attached. It’s who I am.It’s who we are. If you are reading this, you are a human who loves deeply.  And when you love deeply, losing a loved-one breaks your he ..read more

Not much time to write, but wanted to share some of the lovely stallions I met at Coudelaria Ferraz da Cosa earlier this week.   It was a beautiful facility, close to the Spanish border and founded by Pedro Ferraz da Costa in 1987. Not only were his stallions stunning, but they were super playful and sweet as well.  And his dogs were equally adorable!  Enjoy!! These boys love to play!   And they are glorious when illuminated in window light ..read more

Well, this post doesn't technically have any horses. But, I'm super excited to be in Portugal with Tony Stromberg and a group of amazing photographer friends. If you love horses and you don't know Tony or his work, buy this book...Horses, by Tony Stromberg. Heck, buy any of his books.  He is an incredibly talented photographer, able to capture the majestic beauty of our equine friends in a way that few can.  And you know what...he's a really nice guy too! One of the things I love about Tony's workshops is that it combines what I love most...travel and animals!  So, here I am in Evora, Portugal ..read more
