The Rangers learned the hard way in 2022 that the only thing harder than making a run in the playoffs is making a run by going to several game sevens. That, mixed with the benefit of winning the Presidents’ Trophy and landing a favorable matchup, the Rangers had to take advantage and put this series to bed as quickly and easily as possible. With a 3-0 lead on the series, the potential to sweep was there but the Capitals weren’t going to go down without a fight. Nevertheless, the Rangers understood the assignment and did what they do best, found a way to win a hockey game. Break out the brooms ..read more

Game 3’s are among the most important in a playoff series. The first game on opposing ice, the first following some travel. Regardless of how the series has played out prior to puck drop, they provide a major opportunity for both sides and for the Rangers tonight, it not only gave them the chance to take a commanding lead on the series, but gave them the chance to get one step closer to putting some demons from last season to bed. Sure enough, they took care of business. Let’s break it down:

It was mainly business as usual for the Rangers at today’s morning skate and why wouldn’t it be with a 2-0 lead on the series? The one outlier would involve what has arguably been the team’s most effective line in terms of controlling the cadence of puck possession; The Cuylle - Wennberg - Kakko line. Alex Wennberg would be the lone skater missing from team practice as it was reported that the reliable third line center was given a maintenance day.
