One of the other boarders at my barn apparently put up a camera about a year ago without telling the owner or anyone else. You would really have to be looking for it to find it. I knew it was there and didn’t think much about it and thought the owner must have given permission. The other day, barn owner was in my barn with a couple other people and she was going off about the couple with the camera, not knowing about it. She had a lot of unflattering things to say. Well, it was but 15 mins later camera hubby came tearing in and proceeded to attack barn owner for talking bad about him. He used ..read more

Hello, my name is Ellen,
I don't know if this is the right place but equestrians are some of the best people I know so I thought I might try.
I'm hoping to find some help in raising money for double knee surgery but I know this is a lot to ask people so even advice on raising something for it would be amazing. I'm 22 and now living out of a van/couch surfing in the UK due to homelessness as a result of my knees becoming more painful and unstable. Both of my knees are affected by hypermobility which causes them to suddenly dislocate at random and with no reason for example just walking up ..read more

Hello everyone! About a month ago I imported a horse from northern Spain to south Florida. I am new to Florida so I am not super familiar, but my horse has started to develop skin issues around the chest and girth area.
The vet is coming today, but I wanted to reach out and see if anyone has any advice.
It seems to flake and get worse over night.
I’m not sure if it’s fungal or related to ants or what the deal is.
I throughly groom my horse twice a day, scrubbed him real good with anti fungal shampoo last week and have stopped applying fly spray to the areas to see if that helps.
Has anyon ..read more

Yesterday I had my first bad fall. I've fallen off quite a few times but I never got hurt. Yesterday was the first time I had zero control over the fall and was essentially tossed off, landing on my side headfirst. My neck is stiff, hurts, and I can't turn or tilt my head to the side. Currently waiting for an doctor's appointment.
I'm mad at myself and my riding environment because this could have been prevented. Instead I was encouraged to keep pushing the horse which was clearly showing signs of discomfort.
I used to ride as a kid and I started riding again now at 28. I can do the basics, w ..read more

Where I grew up, riding a horse was one of the most manly things you could do. Up there with shooting guns, driving a pick-up, and paying for a bride.
Where I live now, the only other male rider I know is the stable owner's husband.
I'd love to hear some other perspectives on this.

It's been bothering me how popular horseriding has become. I don't feel special anymore with almost everyone I know deciding to try or start it. I just feel like they would never get it since I've been around horses for years now and they just want to do it bc it's a trend or they think it's easy and cool. Idk maybe I'm the problem.

hi! i often come to this r/ for insight from more experienced riders, but wanted to share a small win from my lessons lately.
i’ve been riding with a group of (very lovely) women every thursday at a local ranch. our mentor/instructor is a well known woman where we live, and has been inducted into a hall of fame of sorts for her work. she’s an older woman, very sweet but stern, and i’ve been riding with her since jan 2023. (for a period of time, i was doing 2 lessons/week, when her schedule allotted for it, but not anymore.)
i’ve been feeling like i’ve been at a standstill in progress lately ..read more
