On Saturday, April 13, the University of Arkansas School of Law celebrated Founder's Day, marking the 100th anniversary of the founding of the law school. Dean Cynthia Nance orchestrated a wonderful ceremony kicked off by Chancellor Charles Robinson. Arkansas Governor Sanders and Fayetteville Mayor Lioneld Jordan both issued proclamations. Professor Howard Brill delivered a fascinating rendition of the history of the the law school. More than 40 years ago, the University of Arkansas School of Law founded the LL.M. Program in Agricultural Law. LL.M. Alumna Emily Stone, Staff Attorney at the National Agricultural Law Center, spoke at the National Young Farmer’s Educational Association’s Agriculture’s Promise Conference in Washington, DC. Agriculture’s Promise is a conference for high school and college agriculture students that teaches the students how to be an advocate for agricultural policy. Emily spoke to conference attendees about the Fundamentals of the Farm Bill explaining what the farm bill is, why it requires reauthorization, how it is funded, and discussing the specific titles included in it. Last Fall, Professor Kelly Nuckolls was selected for the 2023 Young Alumni Award by her alma mater, Fort Hays University. Because she had just given birth to baby Leah, she could not attend the ceremony. Over Spring Break, she went back to campus to deliver a lecture on her career in public service. Last Friday, students in our Nutrition Law & Policy class were treated to a special session with Vice-Chancellor Margaret McCabe. VC McCabe is a noted expert and scholar on nutrition policy, with a focus on the US Dietary Guidelines.
