Following Thursday’s GDP print of -0.9%, the US is in a recession by the standard definition of two consecutive quarters of GDP contraction. The stock market, however, is unbothered, rallying on the news.
The “official” forecasts for Q2 GDP were -0.5%, while it came in at -0.9%. That the market rallied on this tells me it was expecting a far worse GDP print and some money came off the sidelines serving as a relief rally.
The Technical View
The stock market just had its best month in nearly two years in July, a month full of scary economic data where we “officially” reached recession terr ..read more

Ever since Elon Musk made an offer to buyout Twitter (TWTR) back in April, the story has transcended the deal pages and become a tabloid phenomenon.
Basically, Elon Musk offered to buy Twitter at a price of $54.20 per share, or $44 billion.
A few weeks passed and Musk complained that Twitter’s user numbers were juiced by bots, claiming that the number of bots is far closer to 20% of users than the claimed 5%. He eventually attempted to back out of the deal on this front.
Twitter sued Musk in Delaware court for backing out of the deal and the trial begins in October.

Stock splits have been on the rise recently, with Amazon (NASDAQ: AMZN), Alphabet (NASDAQ: GOOGL), Tesla (NASDAQ: TSLA), and GameStop (NYSE: GME) among some of the well-known companies to announce they will be splitting their shares.
A split is a tool that companies, often with high stock prices, use to increase (or reduce) the number of existing shares and reduce (or increase) the face value of each share.
Here’s what you need to know about stock splits and how they are viewed by the market.
There are two types of stock splits: a normal (or forward) split and a reverse split.

What’s up, everyone? Well, I am day trading in a Walmart parking lot, traveling trading station and in a camper van.
Click here Camping & Trading to get Ross’s pdf on Traveling and Trading.
And the internet, well, you can see it up there. I actually did another video, which I’ll put a link to down below, where I’m doing a side by side comparison to the internet. But I’m on a boys trip, me and my son. And I said, “Let’s try to get an hour of trading in each morning.” And so, this morning trading with the Starlink right up there, I was able to lock up ..read more

Have you ever signed up for a brokerage account or downloaded a stock screener, only to be forced to sign contracts about market data from a stock exchange?
Pretty confusing, I know. After all, if you’re signing up for a Charles Schwab account, why are you signing contracts with the New York Stock Exchange or Nasdaq?
The basic answer is that exchanges own the data that their exchange produces.
When Apple (AAPL) stock trades several times a second, that all takes place on a stock exchange. The output of that price data is straight from the exchange and costs them money to stream it to you. Stoc ..read more

What’s up? All right. Well, today, just before I was about to sign off and was finished trading for the day, we had pretty epic algo flush. And I thought this is a good opportunity to do an episode on how the algo flush works.
So, whether you’re a beginner trader or an experienced trader, these algo flush is where a stock drops like 10% in one second. It’s baffling. How does this happen? How’s the stock with, this one’s got 34 million shares of volume. How does it go from trading it in this case, $8.25 to just dropping to $7.40 and halting going down in two seconds.
How does that happen? And ..read more

We’re closing out this week on the seventh consecutive red weekly bar on the SPY weekly chart. Words like bloodbath are being thrown around, and there’s definitely some pain out there. Specifically, small caps, which are a good barometer for risk-taking appetite among equity investors, are taking a beating.
SPY weekly chart
Looking to the daily chart of the S&P 500, this week’s price action has been pretty decisively bearish but still raises some questions about the integrity of the current downtrend pattern:
I crudely drew out the swing pattern in a red marker on the c ..read more

A candlestick shadow represents the extremes of where the price visited during the life of a candlestick on a chart before closing at its ultimate price.
On a bullish candlestick, the shadows represent the difference between the closing price and the high price (upper shadow), and on a bearish candlestick the shadow represents the difference between the open price and the low price (lower shadow).
The Basics of How Candlestick Charts Work
If that is at all confusing, let’s go over the basic definition of a candlestick. A candlestick on a chart looks like the following:
It represents the ..read more

The trend is an important feature of trading that traders use to help them read the market movement better, so they can execute their trading strategies at the perfect moment.
Trend strength simply refers to the level of influence buyers or sellers have over the market over a particular time.
In a weak downtrend, the trend may be bearish, but it still experiences great upward pressure. But in a strong downtrend, the trend is completely bearish, and the bulls usually watch from afar.
This article will highlight the Average Directional Index (ADX), which is an important indicator that is used to ..read more
