Salvaged some of this wood from a firewood pile because of the coloring. Quite dense, turns nicely, no odor. I'm in central Virginia.
The bowl is 8" diameter, 3-1/2" deep. Finished with Mylands friction polish. I could learn to like that stuff!

Honey or jam.
Just a little gift I knocked up for the donor of this wood as he is a breakfast man.
Broke one of the honey fins off and slight crack in the scoop but it's super strong wood so should last a few years at least.
As always I learnt some things and ita a cool prototype for future models!

Everything I've found or have been recommended appears to be foreign made. Thanks for any recommendations.

Got to try my brother in law's lathe last thanksgiving and have been watching fb marketplace / craiglist ever since then but nothing has come up (pretty rural area). While I hate wasting money on new since you lose a lot of bang for buck with tools, I think I'm just about ready to bite the bullet and go for it. I looked over the wiki but wasn't really seeing a machine that had what I want and hit my price mark. Then I ran across this one at HF -14" x 20" / 1HP / 60-3550RPM https://www.harborfreight.com/power-tools/routers-cutout-tools-lathes/lathes-accessories/14-in-x-20-in-electronic-variabl ..read more

So I sanded to 600 (not sure why but I had the pads so I used them) And I forgot the sanding sealer. Wealnt straight to Yorkshire grit.
Should I redo?

Used a different lacquer and not as happy with the color. A bit yellow. 7 1/2 x 2 1/8. 6.4 oz. Last two pics are the other bowl and the two blanks.
