Switch from private practice to ENT?

What can I expect when switching from working in a private practice to an ENT clinic (USA)? Have any of you made the switch and regretted it? I’ve been working in a private practice for ~9 months and, while I like my team members and the job is pretty low key, I’m not happy with the compensation/bonus structure and feel like I’m not really using all the skills I went to AuD school for. Got an offer from an ENT clinic with better pay and benefits, but not sure if I should make the switch. TIA submitted by /u/HearIAm07 [visit reddit] [comments ..read more

Does APD need to be retested

(My intent is not to look for medical advice, I know I have APD but if this is seen as medical advice, of course delete as it breaks the rules of this page) I’m just looking for a yes or no answer. I’ve been trying to google and research but all the answers I’ve come across relate to children. Assessed when I was 15 (now 27) and use an FM system in college. About to graduate and looking into a low gain hearing aid for APD - so I don’t need advice on that aspect. I just know the testing was very overwhelming for me and likely won’t go about getting them if I need to be retested, especially see ..read more

Would love an audiologist to assess new AI glasses market for hard of hearing people

In addition to testing in profound hearing loss now, I also have auditory processing disorder, so live transcription is a life saver. I’m on Zoom all the time professionally, and with captions I can function close to 100% in comprehension of a conversation. I have the best Resound hearing aids, which gives some sound support, but unless I’m reading lips in a quiet situation, I’m usually not able to follow a conversation, and forget it if there are any competing sounds. And APD just constantly scrambles things. So, was thrilled when I began reading about AI glasses that would have captions cap ..read more

Chewing and occlusion effect

Hi, I have tinnitus and hyperacusis. I wear BTE noise generators to reduce the tinnitus symptoms. I use the with a closed sleeve dome. While at work today I ate a quick sandwich. I also wore ear muffs because of working in a noisy enviroment. While eating I hit a hard grain or a peice of bone or something of the sort with my molars on the side og my worst ear. Because of the HA’s and the muffs, I suppose it was some occlusion effect aswell. It was what sounded like an extremly loud bang when it broke and my teeth clacked. Actually so loud I am worried that it might have reached a dangerous le ..read more

Audiologists who wear glasses: How does one otoscope without the TM looking blurry?
Audiology | Reddit

I am a student audiologist, and I am finding that when I am in the clinic, I often find men’s ears particularly difficult to look into due to the TM appearing blurry to me. I am tall (6 foot) so when I look in patients ears, I find it difficult to look through the otoscope with my glasses on (I kinda have to look over my glasses to see). How do you deal with/fix otoscope blurriness? I can tell if there is wax occlusion or not, but I feel like very uncertain whenever it comes to describing the TM itself. Edit: Things are blurry to me when they are far away submitted by /u/Yankiwi17273 [visit ..read more

Tips for protecting hearing at loud concerts with hearing aids?

I'm bringing an older child with Oticon OPN hearing aids (with ear molds) to a concert at a large arena. I'm cognizant of loud music potentially harming the ears of anyone. I understand aids won't amplify over a certain level, but will the molds provide enough "ambient" sound attenuation? Should they take out their aids and wear earplugs because it'll still be audible at concert levels? Are there any risks of damaging the aids from sustained loud noises? Does anyone have any thoughts on this for making it both safe and enjoyable? Or perhaps point me in the direction of a study or reputable so ..read more
