Following news of Kenyan cement manufacturer Karsan Ramji and Sons Ltd’s (KRSL) groundbreaking 25-year agreement with Geothermal Development Company (GDC) to supply 40 tonnes/hour of steam for KRSL’s newest cement plant, the manufacturer has tapped the globally recognized geothermal consulting and engineering company, Italy’s Steam Srl, to act as Owners Engineer for the project. The US Department of Energy’s (DOE) Geothermal Technologies Office (GTO) has issued a call for proposals from DOE National Laboratories for research and development projects related to geothermal and critical materials. First geothermal well a success for MTU facility in Munich, Germany

Drilling and pump testing of the first well drilled for the geothermal heating project of aircraft engine manufacturer MTU Aero Engines AG (MTU) in Munich, Germany has been completed, with data so far indicating a productive well. The drilling rig will then be skidded to the location of the second well, which will be drilled by mid-April. The International Heat Flow Commission (IHFC) has published the 2024 update of the Global Heat Flow Database. This is a collaborative effort between academia and industry that compiles authenticated heat flow data to provide a better understanding of the Earth’s thermal field.
