EOS R5 CAMERA Confession time, I’m a massive fan of this camera , it’s the mainstay of my kit bag and I regularly have two of these bodies in my camera bag. Lightweight and really solidly constructed it offers the perfect balance of performance and reliability. Boasting an impressive 45.0 megapixels, 20 frames per second , 8 stops of image stabilisation and capable of capturing full frame 8k raw video what’s not to like ? Grey Squirrel The EOS R5 uses Canons advanced full frame 45MP CMOS sensor which enables the capture of stunning and detailed still photographs. Coupled with the all ..read more

Wood Mouse , Apodemus sylvaticus The Wood Mouse is one of Britain’s most abundant mammals. It’s mainly nocturnal with most activity peaking at dusk and dawn. Despite its name its spread isn’t confined to just woodlands , including homes , gardens , grass verges , and moorland. It’s a typical mouse shape with a long tail and large ears. Its coat is dark brown with a lighter off white underside.  The Wood Mouse is slightly larger than it’s more troublesome relative the House Mouse. It’s present in most parts of the U.K. with an estimated population of around 40 million individuals which gr ..read more

RF 800mm f11 IS STM LENS The Canon Rf 800mm f11 IS STM is a super telephoto prime lens , big brother to the 600mm f11 and another staple part of my kit bag. So I may be a little biased , this compact lens that I pair with a Canon R5 body gives me stunning optical performance , quick and quiet autofocus thanks to the STM motor and with 4-stop image stabilisation the ability to shoot hand held. The lens is competitively priced and aimed at enthusiasts who are looking for an affordable step into long focal length prime lenses. So what’s not to like ? Image taken with the 800mm lens The l ..read more

The Hide , Monday 1st April 2024 European Robin April , at last spring is here . At home the Hedgehogs are awake and hungry. And today I have a visitor at the Hide , the one and only Mr bird man of Marlborough…….. Graham Stewart no less. Another wet , wet , wet day here in North Wiltshire with at times some rather heavy downpours that once again have effected the wildlife watching . Dunnock One of our local residents doesn’t seem to mind the rather wet and damp conditions , the badly behaving gang of Grey Squirrels, causing mayhem around the pond . And it’s not just here either , read this art ..read more

The Hide , Friday 29th March 2024 Blue tit Well then , that’s it. March nearly done and dusted and almost officially time for spring , at last ! Once again the weather here at the meadow has been absolutely awful with torrential downpours and lashing winds . Apparently another storm is on it’s way. ( To be honest I have lost count of the number of storms , but it seems to have been a lot ) Long-tailed tit In the news this week , hedgehogs are being relocated from a Scottish island to the mainland , read the full story here. . The Mole , Talpa euopaea Moles are a regular visitor at the Meadow Hide , we have never seen one which is normal but the evident there , with their distinctive mole hills periodically appearing in the grass path to the hide.
