We are a group of Pagan bloggers who come from a variety of backgrounds, but who all practice a naturalistic approach to our spirituality. We celebrate the natural world in our paths, both through scientific evidence and through our personal relationships to the land.

Happy Spring Equinox, or Ostara!
While many of us have seen climate change effectively remove this past winter (certainly the case here in Michigan), climate change is highly variable. In California, it’s contributed to a massive amount of rainfall, setting off a “Superbloom” of flowers, just in time for Ostara! This massive rain has even brought back Lake Manly, a rare lake in Death Valley (!) which last appeared around 20 years ago.
Our spirituality brings us Ostara today – a great reminder that life returns after challenges, as well as a reminder of that every cool thing ..read more

As many of you know, I’m writing from way up here in Michigan – the Great White North, eh. When I was growing up in this same area of Detroit, the ice on the lakes would be so thick every year that we’d literally drive trucks out onto the ice with our ice fishing supplies. No more. That’s one more part of us that climate change has stolen.
Last year, there was so little ice on the lake that ice fisherpeople could only go out there a couple days all winter (and certainly not with a vehicle). Same this year. This was the first Imbolc where we didn’t have any snow for our ..read more

This image, meme, came across my Facebook feed and unexpectedly became a prompt, having coaxed memories I nearly forgotten.
What leads the last point is simply being honest with yourself about the uncomfortable parts and not dismissing / excusing them.
Actually looking at the entire manuscript and accepting what is presented at game value. For any point that causes discomfort – genuinely ask why they are uncomfortable, why have I been dismissing and excusing them? Where is that coming from?
For a great many people accepting that this is whole story, as it was intended to be, is what makes them ..read more

There’ve been some great topics on The Wonder podcast! Being Pagan Every Day, an interview with Jaala, councilmembers, and Imbolc! All those, and more, are on the page here.
And I of course don’t know about you, but for me, every minute can be a tight squeeze in my busy life. I used to have a 30 minute commute, which adds up to 5 hours of listening time every week. But now, with my new job, it’s only a 9 minute commute, 3 times a week (due to Covid work from home), for less than 1 hour per week. So it’s really cool to discover that now, transcripts are on Th ..read more

There are a handful of scientific facts that can radically change our view of our world and our life – and which indeed did exactly that when they were discovered. Have you ever considered which scientific facts are most life-changing to you?
I have, at least a little. After I was asked to give a talk on our immense family tree of all life on Earth, I realized that this was a powerful idea, one of the biggest ideas to be shown by science (and yes, the essence of this idea has already been a main part of many indigenous spiritualities for thousands of years before Darwin and ..read more

The time of reemergence of life is approaching. Beneath the snow and ice lies a new heartbeat. What do you hold, which could empower your life? Is it nearly time to bring it forward?
Celebrations
The Winter Thermstice is the time of the deepest cold (on average). Despite the cold, life exists, hidden beneath the snow. Gathering strength, yet hidden in many ways. How long and harsh will this winter be? Can traditions of groundhogs or candles tell us? I recently saw a Pagans personalized Wheel of the Year, and they had Imbolc labelled as “Brightening“, o ..read more

Yet again we see an article that attacks a minority religion (Paganism) by linking it to immorality, hedonism, egotism, greed, violence and more – which will inevitably contribute to the violence and social marginalization of Pagans by those in the privileged religion in America, stoking Christian Nationalism and bigotry. Sound familiar? Of course it does, especially today. But this isn’t from the common Christian Nationalist sources on the far right. It’s not even from FOX news. It’s from the (usually) solidly liberal Atlantic!

Here comes New Year’s Eve! What will you make from it? A fun evening? A window into the vastness of space and time? Steps towards a better life, a better you? All of these are possible!
New Years Resolutions
New Year’s resolutions fail so reliably that they have become the butt of jokes, right? Like “My new year’s resolution is to force myself to drink at least 1 beer a week.”, right? Sure. After all, human beings very often fail resolutions in general, especially when they are not small, incremental, measurable, and carefully tracked.&nbs ..read more

Happy Winter Solstice, or Yule! Of course, our spherical planet also gives us the beautiful symmetry of the Summer Solstice (Litha) being celebrated now by our Southern Hemisphere friends. With the exact Solstice moment at 10:27 pm (EST) on December 21st, the longest night for most of those in America is the night of the 21st, but for some in Eastern Eurasia, the longest night is the night of the 22nd. This is different for every time zone, and is easy to figure out. If the instant of the Solstice is in the morning (before noon) in your local time zone, then the ..read more

Well, if you are like me, you still have plenty of last minute things to do in the few remaining hours before Solstice. If so, then here are some great The Wonder podcasts for the time after Solstice! Or, if you’ve already got all your ducks in a row, they can help the Solstice spirit build. Either way, here are some great topics – surviving the holidays, our monsters, interviews with Atheopagan councilmembers, and a look at the Solstice! All those, and more, are on the page here.
