As some of you may know, we recently took delivery of 3 very special Ukuleles from South Dakota based Craftsman Tom Molstad. Tom's instruments caught my eye by accident about 6 months ago and I knew from the moment I saw his #13 Ukulele Shearwater that I had to own one. Half a year later and today (9/4/19) our first three piece collection arrived along with my own beauty. Bird on a Wire Instruments are so obviously committed to taking an artistic approach to instrument design; Tom set's to work building colourful and inspiring Ukuleles that test the conventional aesthetic approaches and exp ..read more

Living with the MiSi Air! Is it worth the extra money? Also, just how useful is an internal microphone in the live setting? Southern Ukulele Store and the newly relaunched MiSi Air have a bit of a love/hate relationship. Back in 2016 we were one of the first European MiSi dealers to really get onboard with the 1.0 design - I mean what could go wrong with an incredibly quick and relatively painless installation process? The original MiSI air was an end pin jack socket with a tiny world class condenser Microphone soldered onto the board. It would take about 5 minutes to install and in theory wo ..read more

As a Kanile'a dealer of nearly ten years, and their biggest overseas dealer, our love for Kanile'a Ukuleles is unquestionable, so to be able to offer this model really is a dream come true for us. Rob began discussions with Kanile'a about a model unique to SUS way back in 2016 during an annual visit to Joe Souza at Kanile'a HQ. Our recent visits to see them at the NAMM show were also a great opportunity to go back and forth on the specifics. And although it took a while to get to this point, we are proud to offer a Kanile'a instrument that offers a beautiful look, beautiful sound, exquisite bu ..read more

It's a proper minefield finding the right instrument I know! Let me help... Here is a little bit of a beginners guide for those that have gotten a bit stuck in the weeds trying to make a decision. For the adult beginner If the ..read more

1Visit   Thank you to everybody that made the journey down (or across) to SUS last month for our last workshop/gig of the year with Victoria Vox. It wasn't without its wobbles as the shop was as full as it has ever been and Victoria got caught up in traffic meaning we started an hour late... Even so, nothing dampened the enjoyment of the day. Take a look at her performance of Only time will tell and let's do it again soon!   The post Victoria Vox's Victorious Visit to SUS appeared first on Southern Ukulele Store ..read more

The 5 Most Popular Items on the Website?

A quick read for you all... What are the top 5 selling items here at the Southern Ukulele Store?   1# - Fremont Soloist Squeakless Low G String This Fremont string is THE option for a player looking for a Low G. Tenor players have several good options but the Fremont Soloist is (in our opinion) the only Low G that works on the Concert and Soprano sizes as well as the Tenor and it doesn't feel anything like a Guitar string.. Or a Uke string for that matter. The Soloist strings are flat wound meaning the consistency is smoother than the Tinman's morning Coffee. It has the right kind of bass ..read more

Oh, the heat! It's never ending. I hope you are all taking care of your musical instruments? July is always a funny month to be a music shop - Summer NAMM never seems to bring much Ukulele news and our suppliers seem to all be waiting for sexy, rare and wonderful musical instruments to be completed and sent out.. Indeed, in the coming 4-6 weeks we are expecting lots of Kamaka, Kanile'a, KoAloha, Kala, Sumi, Da Silva's & Pono and the stock room does look slightly lonely some mornings whilst we sit patiently waiting. In an effort to document as many Ukuleles from stock as possible Gunsy and ..read more
