Hey fellow sysadmins I have my hands on CoPilot for M365, and while it helps me do office type tasks like formatting excel tables, email drafts, transcribing teams meetings etc....i havnt really found a use for it to assist with my daily sysadmins tasks. Have any of you used CoPilot to improve Time to Resolution for incident troubleshooting? Have you integrated it to data sources to bring information together quicker? It has access to all my OneDrive and SharePoint files, so it helps when I need to quickly ask for instructions that are documented on Word or PDF documents in SharePoint. How ha ..read more

Starting with a pretty good size MSP on Monday, any advice?

Been working internal IT support for 2 years, moving to an MSP as an infrastructure engineer for local and remote clients so just looking for general advice on some commonalities and things I should expect. I know it’s going to be more stressful and fast paced, my internal desktop support job has been “ work when you want, as long as it’s during core business hours” the MSP is set 9-5 and uses a quickbooks variation for time tracking so not sure how that will be, advice welcome. submitted by /u/exploringth3unknown [visit reddit] [comments ..read more

Backup software recommendation for 2008 R2 /Windows XP ?

Just discovered that a new customer has a 14 year old 2008 R2 Foundation Server running (on metal, Dell T110) and a Windows XP PC (Dell Opti with all those green tool-less parts) that is critical to their operations. If these were VM’s, no problem - but they are on metal. Recommendations for backup software that still support 2008 R2 and XP on metal machine backups ? The 2008 R2 server is of course an AD DC as well. Prefer backup software / platform that is: - month to month or 1 year max commit (we’re going to push to decom this stuff ASAP, but surely it will be months) - support for storage ..read more

Ninjaone - scheduling unrequested sales calls via MSP new client interest web form

Just a heads up, mostly for NinjaOne since they JUST did this, but if a vendor is using our new client interest form to try and weasle their way on to my calendar...well you just lost any future sale. Lord help the salesperson who cons me into a sales meeting I didn't request. How exactly do they see this meeting possibly going well? This is not how you sell your product. Everytime I consider Ninja I recall their shady sales tactics. I'm disappointed. Cue them appearing to apologize and say it's a one off as I've seen them do a dozen times on this forum. Do better Ninja. submitted by /u/TCPM ..read more

Safe to make independent consulting my full time gig?

I’ve been moonlighting doing cybersecurity consulting to small-medium business for $500/hr flat rate, 4 hour minimum. I’m doing about 20hrs / week amongst a few clients that have rotated (only 1 has been going the whole time). It’s been about 6 months of this and the income, even after taxes is still a bit more than my day job. There’s also practically no significant recurring expenses as it’s just me and I don’t need an office and already have my own equipment I use. I’ve got a 6 month emergency fund saved up now, and was wondering if something like this is safe for long-term stability and i ..read more

I think I hate Outlook 365

Looking for thoughts on using Outlook 365. I find small quirks when accessing, reading, and deleting emails. With one of my clients accessing multiple email accounts, the quirks become critical errors. One email account reports and displays emails from a different account. I can solve this temporarily with a right click/load to new window, but that gets quirky too. I believe that Office 2021 Pro Plus running on Windows 11 Pro (never 11 Home) is my best solution - getting ready to test that theory. Am I the only one that hates Outlook 365? submitted by /u/wow___just_wow [visit reddit] [commen ..read more

Has anyone found/have a tool or script that works to scan all computers you manage to see if they have a TPM 2.0 or are Windows 11 compatible? Wonderful ConnectWise can show it in their RMM and I can run the PS script, but there is no way to export it. Which isn't surprising with their shit reporting. submitted by /u/PsychologicalAd8611 [visit reddit] [comments ..read more

Started working for small-medium MSP last summer, filling an empty service coordinator (dispatcher) position. After my most recent review, my boss has expressed interest in my moving up to service manager. For those that have made this transition, what are the biggest changes in your day-to-day, biggest challenges, etc? submitted by /u/Winter_Fall_7066 [visit reddit] [comments ..read more
