Can Mac Jones be the next Sam Darnold? Takeaways on 49ers’ free-agent additions (paywall)
“Jones’ career began to nosedive in his second season when defensive-minded coach Matt Patricia bombed in his role as New England’s offensive play-caller and unofficial coordinator. Jones’ quarterbacks coach that season: Former Giants head coach Joe Judge, whose background is in special teams.
Jones’ ineffectiveness is probably at least partly due to instability. His teams have had a 26 ..read more

The 49ers have clearly committed to not handing out big contracts in free agency this year, but there are several impact players they could sign without doing so.
The 49ers’ quiet free agency period is no accident. San Francisco’s likely approach on the open market was laid out before the new league year began, and the franchise has stuck to a commitment to avoiding paying out large contracts this offseason.
Yet the 49ers are set to head into the draft still with 18 spots on the roster to fill. Even with 11 picks in the draft, it seems unlikely they will fill all ..read more

Mike Florio believes Mac Jones joined 49ers looking to take Brock Purdy’s job
““I’ve heard enough about Mac Jones over the years, and I’ve seen enough from Mac Jones,” Florio recently stated. “He is not going to show up and bow down to Brock Purdy. He’s going to go in there with the mindset of, I can win this job. I was the 15th pick in the draft in [2021]. This guy was the last guy taken in ..read more

The 49ers have a void to fill at the linebacker position, and GM John Lynch was recently seen in conversation with a draft prospect who has the skill set to plug that gap.
While the accepted school of thought heading into the 2025 NFL Draft is that the 49ers will focus on the trenches, with obvious holes on both the offensive and defensive lines, a failure to retain a critical member of their back seven has placed an emphasis on a position they would probably prefer not to prioritize.
It was widely reported that the 49ers were desperate to retain linebacker Dre Gre ..read more

That’s “F” as in “Failure” not “F” as in “Free Agency”. With Deebo Samuel, Aaron Banks, Jaylon Moor and others gone, how could you give them a decent grade?
The 2025 free agency for the San Francisco 49ers has been interesting. If you are happy with their moves (or lack thereof), you may be in the minority.
CBS Sports’ Jordan Dajani wasn’t pleased either. He handed out his grades to every NFL team in free agency and gave the 49ers an “F.”
The 49ers have had the worst offseason, and the list of talent they’ve lost over the past few weeks is incredibly long ..read more

The Washington Commanders were at the top of Deebo Samuel’s list of destinations when requesting a trade from the San Francisco 49ers. Why the Commanders? Winning.
If you were looking at social media on Friday, you might have come across a quote from Deebo Samuel regarding his trade from the San Francisco 49ers to the Washington Commanders. Winning was involved.

Pelissero: 49ers, Brock Purdy contract talks shouldn’t drag throughout offseason
““I would say it’s Brock Purdy because my understanding is the 49ers are just simply much further along in the Brock Purdy process,” Pelissero responded. “They’ve had negotiations. They have gone back and forth. It does not sound like anything is imminent or even close right now. With Brock Purdy, the question is just where should those numbers be?”
