Athletics North Queensland is pleased to announce that the Mackay Regional Council will be the Major Partner and Host of the 2023 North Queensland Championships The North Queensland Championships, which is the largest regional athletics Championships in Australia, will see athletes head to Mackay from the 22nd – 24th  of September 2023, bringing in over 800 athletes and 150 volunteers for three days of action. Congratulations to all athletes that competed in the final days of the Australian Track and Field Championships. Jake Doran (Townsville North Star) in the semi-finals running 10.31 to automatically qualify for the finals. In the finals of the Open 100m, with a fast start out of the blocks, Jake went into the lead early and finished the race in first with a time of 10.05. In the 200m heats, Jake ran 20.98 in the 5th to qualify for the finals. With another fast start in the finals, Jake ran 20.77 to place 2nd and come home with his second medal for the championships. Congratulations to all athletes that competed on day 6 of the Australian Track and Field Championships. On another wet and windy day, athletes pushed through these conditions and still had exceptional results. Hannah Edwards (Mulgrave Athletics) in the Open Discus with a throw of 44.07m to qualify for the finals. On the same day, Hannah also competed in the U18 Hammer Throw with a throw of 56.38 in the second round to move into second place and her first medal of the event. Congratulations to all athletes that competed on day 5 of the Australian Track and Field Championships, the weather was far from ideal but all the athletes pushed on. Blake McGuiness (Keppel Coast) in the Open Ambulant Long Jump, in far from optimal conditions jumping 3.67m in the final round to place 9th. In the Open Ambulant Discus throwing 25.22m in the 2nd round to place 7th overall. Jade Bidgood (Peak Performance Track Club) in the Open 1500m heat 2 running 3:59.89 to place 14th. Congratulations to all athletes that competed on day 4 of the Australian Track and Field Championships. Zoe Chester (Townsville North Star) competing in the U20 Triple Jump. With wet weather hovering around all day conditions were far from ideal, but that didn’t stop Zoe. Jumping 12.41m in the final round to move into the silver medal position. Congratulations to all the athletes that competed in day 3 of the Australian Track and Field Championships. Katelyn McGee (Pace Running and Multisport) running in the U15 800m. With a time of 2:18.94 to place second in the first heat getting an automatic qualifier for the finals happening at 2:00 pm local time.
