The #4Jathletics track and field season is here at last!
And the action will happen at three venues over this weekend in our District Championships and Open Graded events.
With around 1300 athletes on start-lists, the events at Inverness, Kilmarnock and Grangemouth should be busy as athletes chase PB performances.
District Championship medals are on offer in the East, West and North in the U17, U15 and U13 age groups.
In the National Open Events, the Sprints and Jumps will be at Grangemouth this year and the Endurance and Throws at Kilmarnock. National Open Graded events happen at Invern ..read more

Morag Millar’s fine run for silver in the Scottish 5k Champs led her to A standard in the Road Race GP (photo by Bobby Gavin)

The Scottish 5k Champs has a great reputation for fast time and the 2024 edition was no different.
We’ve now allocated Road Race Grand Prix shares from performances by no fewer than 11 athletes on the night in Edinburgh.
Gold medallists Steph Pennycook and Scott Stirling led the way and the doctor duo and nine others are all in for a slice of the overall £4000 pot via their runs last Friday night.
Seven of those 11 were in the Women’s division.

Entries are open for our second Throws Grand Prix meeting of the season.
It’s at Grangemouth on Saturday 25 May and we’d love to see athletes, coaches and clubs support this event.
This is the second Throws GP of the season following the opening event at Aberdeen. The third and final event will be held at Kilmarnock in July.
Athletes and coaches should note that this event holds a World Athletics Category F status and so performances can subsequently be recognised for International qualification standards and World Athletics Ranking points.

Flashback . . . Scottish Student Champs in 2012 and Eilish McColgan and Laura Muir meet on the Grangemouth track (photo by Bobby Gavin)
By Peter Jardine, Head of Communications
There’s nothing refined about the ageing track and field facility at Grangemouth stadium.
But it can be a venue where athletes are defined.
And, as the spiritual home of track and field athletics in Scotland, it has effectively elbowed Meadowbank aside as the national stadium – certainly this century.
No wonder no lesser a figure than Commonwealth champion and multiple British Record holder Eilish McColgan argues veheme ..read more

Alessandro Schenini (photo by Bobby Gavin)
Alessandro Schenini will always have great memories of Grangemouth after a stunning Native Record there last summer at the Senior Scottish Champs.
And the long jumper made a solid start to the outdoor season at the latest National League meeting at the same venue over the weekend.
Alessandro leapt to 7.41m on a day when Krishawn Aiken was also in good form with a 10.58w performance in the 100m sprints. Meghan Porterfield threw 44.03 discus.
U17 athlete Emma Clark clocked 12.00 in the 100m, too, and that time was matched in the same age group by Tehill ..read more

Larkhall YMCA Harriers club website
By Katy Barden
The theory of marginal gains was made famous by Dave Brailsford in his role as performance director of British Cycling.
A similar principle has been adopted by Larkhall YMCA Harriers in their bid to make the club more accessible and to reduce some of the barriers to taking part in sport.
Larkhall YMCA Harriers was founded in 1930. David Gracie – one of only two members to win a Scottish national senior title (the other being William Morrison over 880 yards in 1960) – is the club’s most distinguished member.
A former Scottish record holder, he ..read more
