As we close 2023 and open 2024, one thing is unchanged – the difficulty in maintaining a small bike brand. The challenges that came up during the early part of the pandemic are not easing much. A little, but they’re still there. Fortunately, the cost to ship a container is back to reasonable levels. A ten-fold increase was barely manageable once and, thankfully, the rates are back to pre-pandemic levels. What hasn’t change is the minimum order requirement for each frame size. The minimum order for each size is still 30. That’s totally manageable for the middle sizes, but really difficult for ..read more

Logan over at bikepacking.com reviewed the La Cabra. He got exactly what I was looking for in the ride quality of La Cabra. Something that is nice riding unencumbered, but also will tackle multi-day adventures. And how ’bout those photos! Makes you want to get out and ride, right? Check out the review here. I sent out the first update on the Mod Zero frame on Monday to the folks who are on the notification list. If you’d like to be on the list, send me an email through the contact page and I’ll add your email. Promise the only emails you’ll receive are updates to the Mod Zero production, order process, and ultimately, arrival. The list gets the information several days in advance of a blog post, so there’s incentive there to get on the list. Here’s what I sent out on Monday: I hope ya’ll are doing well. This is the first update on the Mod Zero frame production. I usually provide updates only when ..read more

La Cabra Flat Bar Builds

La Cabra and Monstercross frames were received a couple of months ago. A 40′ container full of frames pulled up to the shop early one morning and with the help of a couple of friends, all frames were unloaded and organized in the shop and my storage spaces within a few hours. With that work done, I set to shipping all the early orders and then building the few bikes that were on order. A few completes because sourcing parts has still, after 2 years, been difficult. The La Cabra is designed as a drop bar bike and the road controls have been in very short supply. I’ve had some Shimano controls o ..read more

Mod. Zero

This post was supposed to be timed to let folks know about a new model that is replacing both the MCD and Road+. And that it was going to be available around the end of summer. Unfortunately, the time frame for the Mod. Zero (say Model Zero) is going to be around late spring 2023. Thanks pandemic. There have been a lot of folks asking about availability of the MCD and Road+ frames. As I kept letting them know “summer,” I couldn’t quite divulge all the details, but now it’s time. Why? Back in December of 2020 I was informed that the minimum number of frames per size I would be required to order ..read more

Update For 2022

The last year saw huge challenges mainly centered around availability. I am just now starting to receive parts that I ordered 10 months ago. I have no idea if I ordered enough or too much. Nothing I can do about it, so I’ll play that hand and go all in. Things are happening, though. La Cabra and Monstercross frames are in production. They should be out of paint and ready to ship in March. With the issues facing ocean freight, there are still many questions about securing a container and space on a vessel, so ready to ship in March vs. an actual ship date and arrival date are still unknowns. Wo ..read more

It’s been a huckuva long process, but the La Cabra frames finally arrived last week. They’re on the webstore now. A few of the size/color combos sold out during the pre-orders. I spent the weekend prepping and getting the pre-sold frames ready to ship. I hope the UPS truck is empty when it arrives to pick up frames later today. I don’t really get too excited about a lot of bike type stuff, but this is a fun bike and the production frames turned out great. Good clearance for big tires. Simple cable routing. No nonsense fun-loving bike. Well, bikes can’t have fun, but they play a big role in the ..read more

New Road+ Frames Available – Soon

Seventy-six Road+ frames delivered. After about 6 months of waiting, the new Road+ frames arrived on a nice warm day in Pt. Reyes Station.  Seventy-six frames painted in either Ultra Violet or Golden Lime.  And, in person, the colors do not disappoint.  There’s no change to the first run of Road+ frames, save for the addition of the triple “anything” cage braze-ons on the fork.  I had completely forgotten I added the braze-ons to the fork, so it was a happy surprise to see that.  Other than that feature, there’s no change to the original Road+ frameset. The photos of the frames in the shop d ..read more

Summer Update – aka Road+ On The Way

Summer is in full swing and more Road+ frames are on the water.  The crystal ball worked just about right as just about the time new frames arrive, I’ll be completely out of the first run of frames – except for one last 44cm red frame.  Hint, hint… The colors of the new Road+ frames will be Ultra Violet or Golden Lime.  I’ll be taking deposits on frames until they arrive sometime in early September.  I opened the deposit window recently to early requests, but it’s open now to everyone.  So far, the demand is split pretty evenly between the two colors.  I’ve got some photos below of the frames ..read more
