I have an LLB from UK Top 5 Uni. Have worked in policy in in a major IO (UNICEF) and global tech company over past 5 years. I am keen to go into graduate studies and idea is to work in a big tech policy role or an international organisation.
I can either do an LLM at Columbia and curate my courses to a policy focus, tech law etc with some courses from SIPA as well (about 2 courses) or go for an LSE MPP which will develop quant skills and have less optional modules but give me a good overall grounding in policy skills.
I would be an Interntaional student in both places,(I am from a devloping c ..read more

Hiii everyone. I’m finishing up my degree for Bachelors honours of Community Social Services with a declared emphasis on mental health. I have a cumulative GPA of 81 %.
I am planning on taking microeconomics and macroeconomics as electives for my last year because Carleton requires it if you don’t have a background in the related field.
Professionally, I have over seven years working municipally in recreation and I have help several positions from youth supervisor to coordinator.
I have discovered my interest for policy development and I don’t see myself working front line in social work any ..read more

I have recently got accepted to International development program at Georgetown McCourt, and MSc Development Management program at LSE, and I am having difficult time on making decision.
I am an international (Korean) student from middle-income family. I have finished International Relations for undergraduate studies, I really enjoyed it, but I felt like I needed more practical skills and knowledge to work in the field where I pursue such as then United Nations (International Organizations), World Bank, or even private field.
Even though I heard Georgetown McCourt School is wonderful place to ..read more

What level of quantitative skills is required for finding a job with an MPP degree? I am an incoming student in the MPP program (at Georgetown or Harris), and I understand that international students need a higher level of quantitative skills for job hunting. But what exactly does this higher level refer to? I reviewed the econometrics courses offered by the school, and they seem to be similar in difficulty to what I studied in my undergraduate program, though more application-oriented. In my last semester of undergraduate studies, I took intermediate econometrics and financial economics (int ..read more

Are international students given lower expectations to develop soft skills in policy graduate schools?
I was at a Policy Grad school networking event where this HKS alum from the 90s talked about how the best part of her policy grad education was learning to participate in class and do team projects.
This was interesting because a recent international student alum next me talked about how he felt that students and instructors gave him a pass for class participation and group project participation, and he wishes he developed better soft skills.
This made me think about how so many of my Americ ..read more

So I’ve started submitting applications for internships. I applied to a company but they emailed me today and advised that the unpaid internship I applied for has too many applicants and they’ve closed it. However, they want me to apply for a paid job with their company as my skill set fits their requirements.
Is this a good sign?

I know this isn't the most conventional place to look for a job.
However, I just wanted to see if anyone one this sub is personally hiring, or knows someone who's hiring for environmental policy or energy policy. I'm just primarily looking for potential leads so I can kickstart my policy career after my MPA.
Please let me know if there is anything available.

I want to pursue a joint MPP/MPA-JD program and I was wondering what programs I should be applying to with my profile. The JD and MPP/MPA need not be at the same institution.
I would like to apply to both law and policy school right out of undergrad (possibility of taking one gap year). I know some policy schools prefer work experience, but I’m unsure how flexible this is.
Multiple public service scholarships/distinctions. Truman, as well.
Flagship state school undergrad. Studied economics and history. Most of my research has centered around history of economics. I don’t have a lot of q ..read more
