Running wires across trees.

I have three palm trees which I would like to hang flood lights on them. I understand to run electrical wires outdoors, it has to be buried and in conduits. Is it against code to run electrical wires from palm tree to palm tree? If yes, then we can stop here. If no, then what type of wire can I use to run across properly? I am pretty sure it is against city/building violation but just want to ask anyway in case I might learn something new. Thanks ..read more

Pulling My Hair Out- with Pilot Failure

Rebuilt old Modine PA 105. New 24v Gas valve. New Thermocouple and Pilot Assembly. New Transformer. Pilot lights properly. Appropriate blue flame engulfs terminal 1/2” of Thermocouple. Pilot will remain lit indefinitely if no call for heat. If call for heat, main burner lights properly. Nice blue flames from burner. Sometimes the unit functions properly 1-2 days. Sometimes it functions properly for 15 minutes. Always the same. The main burner AND pilot both eventually go out while call for heat remains on. Power continues to run the fan so I know the transformer remains powered also as they ar ..read more

Is this old lawn mower still good?

I have this lawn mower that was left behind when I purchased my home. I've never run it and it's been sitting in the garage for the past 4 or 5 years. I figured I would try to sell it or give it away since I do not want a gas powered lawn mower. After running it today, I noticed a lot of smoke coming from the motor (see video1). Even after turning it off, the motor is smoking (see video2). The smoke is coming from the holes in the silver portion of the motor, not from the top black part. I was wondering if this is 1) normal, 2) due to old motor oil / gasoline, or 3) a problem with the motor it ..read more

Ring Doorbell Offline

Hard wired Ring Doorbell. Had been working fine for a year. I noticed that it is offline today. Suspiciously, it seems to have gone offline yesterday at about the same time I reset the router (turned it off and back on.) I tried to reconnect through the app. It asked if the router password had changed (it had not). If I say no it prompts me to rest the router but this does not solve the issue. If I say yes, it will go through a few steps and then finally say "failed to connect". Any ideas ..read more

How to make a noisy door

Door from kitchen to garage, opens in towards the garage. Husband is relegated to smoke his pipe in the garage. (He is good about it, has a lounge chair he's very comfortable.) When I open the door into the garage I almost hit him if he is coming into the kitchen at the same time. I am usually able to bang on the door before I open it, but sometimes my hands are full. (Washer and dryer are in the garage.) I can kick the door with my shoe, but was leaving black marks on the paint. Is there an easy peasy solution? Hang some bells? I can't visualize how to hang bells so that the door brushes aga ..read more
