What is FSI? The full form of FSI is the “Floor Space Index” and it is the ratio of the total area of the plot to the built-up area on the plot. FSI is a rule followed in the development control norms of many cities. It directly tells us about permissible floor areas that can be built upon on a given plot. FSI is also called Space ratio, plot ratio and area ratio. FSI Formula Floor Space Index = (Total Area of all the Floors of Building / Total Plot Area of Building) Different cities have different FSIs. The FSI value

Bar bending schedule of a floor column: Bar bending schedule for floor columns. The part of the column which projected towards the sky on the superstructure is called Floor columns. And the part of the column which is inside of substructure is called Neck column. Finding out the steel quantity required for the neck column is already discussed in our previous article. Bar bending schedule of Neck column If you are new to Bar Bending Schedule, Refer the Basics of Bar Bending schedule To make you clear in finding out the required steel quantities for the construction of the column,

Honey combing in Concrete: Concrete is made into various structural elements such as Columns, Beams, Foundations, Slabs etc. as required as per the structural design When concrete is poured into the formwork, concrete starts flow like water sometimes cavities/voids are formed in concrete when concrete does not reach all places. It appears like honey bee nest. If it is not vibrated properly it may leave voids exposing the aggregate. Concrete Honeycomb not only reduces the strength also provides passage for water which in turn corrodes reinforcement bars. Corrosion is a process which ..read more

The vibration of concrete and its importance: Different types of concrete vibrators are used to perform the vibration of concrete. To learn more in detail we start learning about why we perform vibration for concrete Concrete is the most complex mixture consists of Cement, Sand, and aggregate. Aside from technical properties, Do you know whats the prime objective for mixing these three materials in concrete? The answer is to fill the voids. Yes! Aggregates are irregular in size and have voids in it. To fill the voids, fine aggregate is mixed. The same goes for the Fine aggregate (S ..read more

What is the Road? The road is a paved way or a route or a thoroughfare which drives you to reach your destination through vehicles. Roads are classified based on different criteria, each among them is further classified into different types of roads. In this post, I give a brief description of each and every type and terms which you frequently listen when someone talks about roads. Roads are primarily classified as follows: Out of above, Road classification based on speed and accessibility and based on materials used is the most important. Based on Speed and accessibili ..read more

SLAB: Slabs are constructed to provide flat surfaces, usually horizontal, in building floors, roofs, bridges, and other types of structures. The slab may be supported by walls, by reinforced concrete beams usually cast monolithically with the slab, by structural steel beams, by columns, or by the ground. Slabs are classified into two types: One Way Slab Two Way Slab You can also read 16 Different types of Slabs in Construction #1 One Way Slab: One way slab is a slab which is supported by beams on the two opposite sides to carry the load along one direction. The ratio of

In this post, we are discussing the Importance of Highway Alignment and various factors which are needed to be considered in planning the highway alignment. The Terms which we discuss here are the most important and usually come across in highway designing and planning. As a civil engineer, you must be aware of these terms. Once the plan of road construction is decided, the next step to work on is the highway alignment. What is Highway Alignment? The position of the central line of the highway or the layout of the planned highway line on the ground is called Highway

Quantity of Water is added in M20 grade concrete (All grades):- As I was already given a detailed explanation about how to find out the quantity of Cement, Sand and Aggregate required for different grades of concrete. Here you can learn about the quantity of water is added in M20 grade concrete (all grades). We know that Concrete is a mixture of Cement, Sand, Aggregate and water. Water-Cement ratio in concrete possesses a great rank in acquiring desired strength of concrete. Different grades of concrete have different proportions. Same, Different grades of Concrete Mix design need a ..read more

About Dump Level Instrument:- The dumpy level is an optical instrument used for surveying and levelling operations. It comprises of a telescope tube, firmly held between two collars and adjusting screws. The complete instrument is staged by the vertical spindle. The telescope placed on the dumpy level can be rotated amongst the horizontal plane. Relative elevation of survey points on the land can be determined through the dumpy level. The dumpy level was invented by Willian Gravatt, in 1832. Being a civil engineer, he invented the dumpy level while using Y (Wye) level instrument. Principle of ..read more

What is a septic tank? and why we use it? The tank which Stores a waste water of House or building is called Septic Tank. Septic Tank is installed where there is no proper drainage system. In order store, the Wastage or sewage for 10-30 Days Septic tank is constructed and the same is designed. This tank is usually installed below 1.5m-1.8m from ground level. Waste water coming from sewer Pipes of the house are connected to Septic tank. Wastewater flows into the tank at one end and leaves the tank on the other end as shown in the figure.
