For those dreading the day when self-driving cars take over our roads, there is some good news. The first autonomous cars that go into production in 2021 will not be for use by the general public.

JC Reindl’s article dated January 11, 2018 published in the Detroit Free Press, “ First true autonomous cars won't be for sale” states: “This first generation of autonomous vehicles will, in most cases, not be offered for sale or lease to the general public, but instead would be reserved for commercial use by ride-hailing fleets and delivery services. “ There are several good reasons why the public will not be able to purchase these vehicles.
