Why can’t/don’t other brands do this? Mercedes, BMW, Ford, VW etc.
Is it because their vehicles aren’t usually connected in the same way that Teslas are? ie every Tesla is always connected to their network for updates etc, but VWs are not?
I’m trying to understand how unique this advantage is.
I’m also curious why this doesn’t work as well in practice as it sounds in theory. When I first came across this idea I thought, wow, the software will be the world’s best driver in no time. Hi, I’m currently an undergraduate student at a US university, and I was wondering how I can become more involved/knowledgeable in this space. I think I’m on the right track seeing as I’ve gotten interviews from Aurora and Zoox for motion planning intern positions, but I know I’m not there yet as I failed to land both internships. I don’t know how to impress my interviewers more other than churning out more projects in the remaining years I have as a ug. Is there something else anyone can recommend?

I now agree with Musk’s belief that self driving is an intelligence problem and not LIDAR or other missing sensors.
All that is needed is washers to clean dirt & heated glass on cameras & maybe an additional FLIR camera for Robotaxis.
It’s now a question of how capable is the compute on fsd computer hw3/4 to solve the intelligence problem with the fleet data that they are collecting with 99$/month subscription ?
