Everton have had their 10-point deduction for breaching the Premier League’s profitability and sustainability rules reduced to six points, following an appeal. Chelsea suffered late heartbreak in the final as Virgil van Dijk scored a 118th-minute winner for Liverpool, with the Dutch defender heading home from a set piece as penalties loomed. Pochettino’s side had several good chances to open the scoring before that decisive moment, as Raheem Sterling saw a goal disallowed for a marginal offside and Conor Gallagher hit the woodwork.   Liverpool also had a Van Dijk effort disallowed and saw Cody Gakpo head against the post, as both ..read more

Virgil van Dijk’s extra-time goal earned Liverpool a record-extending 10th League Cup title, as the Dutchman rose in the 118th minute to head home from Kostas Tsimikas’ corner.   Despite a goalless game, the final was not short of action with both teams missing good chances in an entertaining decider.
