We recently left Canada, To offset my 2024 canadian taxes, I contributed to my RRSP but it was slightly over contributed but still less than 2k. Should I take it out or let it be as CRA allows lifetime overcontribution by 2k? submitted by /u/flh13 [visit reddit] [comments ..read more

My dental bill submitted to insurance is higher than what I was showing?

Hi everyone, so I’m new to Canada and just got my dental cleaning for the first time. Just deep clean and maybe some polishing, took around 2 hours. When I got to the front, they showed me the bill and it was 750 something. Since I already provide the insurance information, clerk told me that my insurance will cover everything and I’m good to go. I’m using my company insurance Manulife and they do covered dental cleaning. However today I receive email from Manulife that 3k of dental bill was submitted and they only paid ~700, which means I’m owning 2300. Again, I’m new to Canada, what should ..read more

Recently was told I could get a 4% return rate from my bank for my RRSP, but they offer 4.75 to new sign ups. Is there a tool online that compares rates between banks that I can quickly use to make a short list of where I should start looking? Thanks! submitted by /u/Primary_Ad_739 [visit reddit] [comments ..read more

Why are my funds on hold for an online purchase?
Canadian Personal Finance | Reddit

I purchased something with a sum under $100 online but then when I checked my banking app it says the funds will be on hold for over a week? This is quite frustrating as the item I ordered would be here in a few days if the order was properly processed and my funds weren’t on hold. I don’t understand why this would happen as it’s a debit card not a credit nor was the purchase of a large amount. submitted by /u/VexxingWretched [visit reddit] [comments ..read more

I’ve seen videos where people will surprise their parents by paying off their debts and stuff like that. That has always been the goal for me. There are many reasons why but it’s a long story. I want to be able to help them get back on their feet and not struggling every month. Any suggestions? submitted by /u/Pho_3nixx_Nyx [visit reddit] [comments ..read more

Hi all, my wife recently closed an old RRSP with around $1000 in it from a previous job she had a lifetime ago. She opted to just withdraw this money directly into her bank account. I guess somewhere in translation from either her to the service representative at Canada life or the rep to the computer, they typed in the wrong number for her bank account information. And of course the bank account they typed in was apparently a real account so it actually deposited instead of bouncing back. Two weeks passed and we hadn't seen the deposit, called them and they confirmed the numbers, and realize ..read more

Edit: Money isn't tight and I'm doing well for myself. I just want a reliable car as cheap as possible to go from point A to Point B such as camping, trails, other cities near by or road trip to the east coast with my dog! Frugal ownership -$210 $70 outdoor parking $70 gas (average) $70 ish insurance liability only "Going all out" ownership - $260 $90 indoor parking $100 gas (average) $70 ish insurance liability only The difference will be saved for car maintenance and repairs $40 - $90 a month. I am not sure on car yet but it's gonna be either a Toyota, Honda or Mazda sedans and want to keep ..read more

Withdrawing money from RRSP?

Hey, I am in debt. I have expenses due to my special needs kid. I do have a part time job but despite being there the longest, hours are given according to Managerial preference in that one of my co-workers gets priority because "he is old and gay" (was literally told that this is the reason that he gets more hours than everyone else) and my hours depends on his schedule due to his main job or if he is busy doing personal stuff. Therefore, there is NO point in asking for more hours because it is "well, (old gay dude's name) needs hours." I am not an old, gay dude so .... yea, good luck with g ..read more
