Hey, readers! 2022 is a big year, huh? There is a lot going on in the world right now; lots of things are changing before our eyes. Mostly, gas prices… But also, this year Victoria and I found out she’s pregnant again! Having said that, I’ve been posting less but continuing to work behind the scenes. Today, I wanted to sit down and update everyone who frequents my site and blog on my plans. I’m expanding my horizons and reaching out for more opportunity. I will continue to write and blog and be a friend here like I’ve always done, but the website will start to look a lot different in the comi ..read more

So, this is 2022. For the past couple years it’s somehow felt like the entire world was put on pause, but also things have been changing so rapidly. As my daughter is getting older (she’s two now!), my thoughts keep lingering on what questions she’ll have about this time in history. And I don’t just mean the pandemic. Maybe she’ll ask about it, but I never asked my grandpa about the Spanish Flu…  Maybe she’ll be a movie buff and want to know about the Avengers premier or when Victoria was pregnant with her when we saw Avengers Endgame. Sometimes I wonder if she’ll want to know why we move ..read more

Hey everyone! I know it’s been a while since I last posted. It’s been hectic around here! Short story this week, life update next week. Deal? This is a story a wrote a while ago; it’s my first try at a sci-fi thriller/horror and my only posted attempt besides Seven in a Storm. Don’t forget to like, comment, and share! Spacefall: Crew 276 “Arrival date: March 24th. Year: 2371.” She typed in an access code. “Crew 276 is still fully  intact,” she continued, adjusting her pearly white headset. “For the records, we’ve got Karra Pelleña and Jansen Longpine as the Crew 276 base technicians. THANK YOU! To everyone who has subscribed, read along, and stuck with me these past five years, thank you so much. This blog has been the most incredible creative space, and the community I’ve seen gather to read the writings here is something truly special. Hearing the stories of people connecting to and feeling touched by the life stories, commentary, fiction, and poetry I sprinkle all over the blog is one of the main reasons, if not the main reason, I’ve kept writing while life has gotten busier and busier all around me. Now I know, and you know, that no matter what comes our way, be it mar ..read more

Hustle the Horse – Part One

Welcome back, everyone! Today’s short story is a paralogue of sorts from my second novel, The War for Yokendale. If you haven’t read that book, that’s okay! All you really need to know is that about halfway through it, one of the main characters is forced to leave her horse, named Hustle, behind on their adventures. This is Part One of Hustle’s story, which wasn’t resolved in the book but will be here on the blog. In other news, I haven’t received any submissions for the BJL Creator’s Guild yet! If you would like to have your short story, poem, or other creation (videos are welcomed, too, as ..read more

Today I’m sharing a short story about the passage of time and the lives that can connect us. I hope you enjoy it! BUT before we get to that, I mentioned a special announcement was coming in my last post. Here it is! Over the next month, I’ll be officially launching the Creator’s Guild right here on benjaminjlaw.com! I want to open the door for other writers, artists, and visual creatives to have real estate on my site and access to my audience of readers. It will be built into my blog, and everything will be personally reviewed by me to ensure it meets a certain standard of professionalism ..read more

As some of you know, my wife and I were quarantined with COVID symptoms over the holidays. We’re all recovered and okay, but I missed my usual year-end post! The first week of January I always make a post showcasing my top performing posts from the last year (whether it be visits, comments, likes, etc.). Despite everything, and despite being a bit late, I won’t let tradition die now! Here are 2020’s top posts in order, with an excerpt and a link if you want to read the posts for yourself: Personal Life Update “I’ve recently started a new career, a lot more creative than being a mailman, that ..read more

Christmas: 2020 Revision

Yesterday, my daughter turned one. Tomorrow is Christmas Eve. 2020 was horrible for a lot of people, and I know that. It was a year we’ll all look back on with tinted memories — of time quarantining with our loved ones or alone, of having to work on the front lines of a virus we feared and didn’t understand or trying to get by without any work, and in many cases, of losing someone we love. I’m stuck in the middle here, because while I was working as a mail carrier through the majority of this pandemic, afraid for my life and that of my family, I also got to see our baby girl grow into an adora ..read more

Did you miss me? It’s been two months since my last post without explanation, and I feel really poopy about that (using high-brow literary terms here, you guys). But, I swear I have a good explanation that’s not just me sitting in a dark room playing Among Us. For those of you who don’t know, for the past few years I’ve been a mail carrier. Writing is my passion, but it doesn’t keep the lights on! I didn’t really talk about my out-of-trade work because that’s just not what this blog was about. Suffice to say, I didn’t LOVE that job, but it did what it needed to for me when my family and I were ..read more
